Chapter 7: How could I move on?
Gikwang’s Point of View
“Hey Mom, the ceremony just ended. I’ve officially graduated now,”
“Oh my, congratulations, Gikwang! I’m so happy for you! It just makes me sad that I couldn’t witness it today. I’m really sorry I couldn’t be with you there,” she replied through the phone, her voice slightly blurred because of the static.
“It’s alright Mom. I know you’re busy, and so is Dad. Don’t worry; I’ve no hard feelings, really. I just called to tell you that, okay?”
“Are you sure? Do you want to speak to your brother? He’s dying to talk to you, though he seemed to vanish again somewhere. A minute ago he was right here beside me...”
I laughed softly as I heard Mom say that. “Very funny Mom. I’m not buying that,” I joked through the contraption.
“I’m glad I could hear you laugh, dear. I hope I can see your smile soon,”I could imagine Mom smiling on the other side of the line.
“Yeah, me too, Mom. I miss you, and Dad and as much as I hate to admit it, Yoseob too,” I said. I did miss them. They moved to America without me. Yoseob entered a university there, and Mom and Dad are there for work. I insisted on staying because I was going out with Sangrae, and they knew that too.
“We miss you too. Hope to see you soon, and please decide whether you want to stay there or move here with us, okay? Take care of yourself and don’t do anything rash, okay? Call me if you need anything,”
“Yes Mom, I’ll think about it,”
“Okay, I love you dear, stay safe,”
“Love you too,”
“Oh, Gikwang?” Mom said just in time before I hung up.
“Yeah?”
“Tell Sangrae~ssi congratulations from me, okay? I hope to meet her soon,”
“...”
“Gikwang? You still there?”
“Yeah, Mom. I’ll tell her that,”
“Okay, I’m hanging up now, okay? Bye,”
“Bye.”
I sighed as I looked at my phone. Mom had ended the call.
How could I possibly tell Sangrae that? Dongwoon would feel insulted. It’s my fault, anyway...for not telling them we broke up.
I was too scared that they’d see me as a bad person if they knew that it was me who destroyed our relationship. Everything was just so perfect...except for the fact that I messed up...on that stupid night before Sangrae’s birthday...
*Flashback, the night before Sangrae’s 19th birthday
“Yah, Gikwang, have another shot,” Lee Joon offered him another shot of Soju.
“No thanks...I need to get home soon. I still have somewhere to go tomorrow morning,” Gikwang replied, waving his hands infront of him. The club was very noisy. The lights were blinding and people were dancing in all directions. Gikwang and Lee Joon were sitting at the far side of the room drinking up shots of heavy alcohol. Gikwang had controlled what he was drinking, while Lee Joon was already drunk from several shots of it.
He never really liked these kind of places. It gave him headaches.
He drank occasionally as well, but not always. He just happened to give in to Lee Joon’s plea of accompanying him tonight. Apparently, he had been dumped by his girlfriend earlier, and he wanted his old friend Gikwang to talk to.
