Hal doesn't remember how she ended up there.

Well, not exactly.

Y'see, it all started off when she was walked up to the door of this really large house at around 8 years old, by some really weird men in black suits.

At the time she hadn't known they were apparently part of this government sector who were in charge of monitoring them.

An old lady opened the door, Hal having a distinct memory of her smelling like cinnamon and cranberry, and just kind of pulled her in.

And that's when she told her what was going on. How she was somehow special.

The old lady, named Christine Yule explained how Hal was a 'Holiday,' or at least, the human version of one. And that she wasn't the only one. Christine was apparently the human version of the holiday Christmas and the oldest holiday there was.

There were 2 other children in Christine's care. A pair of twins, named Evan and Dayna Year. They were the human personifications of the holidays' New Years Eve and New Years Day.

At this age, Hal didn't really understand how it all worked. Where were her parents? Why was she with this old lady? What did being the human version of a holiday mean?

But Hal would soon learn that she belonged there, because Hal was like Christine, and Dayna and Evan. She was Hal, the human personification of Halloween.
