Despite his grief sickened state, the Joker didn't cry. He didn't even feel sad anymore; just a ringing of loneliness reminding him that Harley should have been there to fill the air with laughter and then a raging anger that flooded in his veins.
"Alex!" He shouted making the walls tremble. A tall man with a mass of dark curly hair and beady brown eyes ran in.
"We already have men on Riddlers whereabouts and I am interrogating those who are suspected to have known he would try and pull a stunt and try and shoot..," he rambled but trailed off as Joker started to storm into his office.
"Uhh sir?" He asked following him. He entered into a large wooden room with a fire raging on one side sending shadows to shiver across the walls. There was an ornately decorated desk with piles of paper with words scrawled on it. Above the fire was a large picture of Harley and Joker with the two hyenas in all their glamour. There was a sliver picture frame on the desk too and Alex assumed it was a picture of Harley. It was a shame Joker didn't come up here very often, but he did do all his greatest plans sat next to Harley among the coldness of the metallic guns and his insanely creative toys. Joker went to the side and poured out a glass of red wine. He motioned as to ask if he wanted any but Alex shook his head. Rubbing his head, the Joker turned to look at Alex and said without a wobble "Riddler took something more than my pride,"
"Sir I am so sorry I couldn't be there to help-"
"I don't need your help!" Joker screamed, his eyesight blurring red with anger before he calmed down. Alex, knowing it was wise not to flinch, waited. "Aww who the fuck am I kidding?" The Joker sighed laboriously and took a sip of his wine. "I can't even protect myself let alone my girl." He mumbled under his breath.
"Sorry?" Alex asked unsurely, silently praying the wine would simmer him down.
"I mean he took Harley!" The Joker bellowed, his voice cracking on the last word. He looked very fierce with his face half hidden in the shadows and a large scowl upon his usually smiling face. But now it was Alex's turn to explode.
"What do you mean he took her?" He shrieked although he knew it was unwise to provoke the Joker despite being slightly subdued by the wine, but he couldn't help it; Harley was like a little sister to him.
"I mean he came in here demanding money and whatnot and the made off with her!" The Joker roared back louder. "Oh but that fool with fucking pay, he will regret messing with me," he muttered in a strained voice. mostly to himself but loud enough for Alex to hear.
"Dispatch people to find her, I don't care what the cost." Joker said firmly and Alex nodded before being dismissed by the Joker. As his footsteps faded into the distance, a torrent of voices washed over him.
'He obviously took her to his lair,' one said.
'No he'd expect that, stupid,' Joker replied 'he's too smart for that.'
"And you forget that I don't know where his fucking lair is!" He screamed into the empty room.
The voices went quiet and all there was, was the spitting and cracking of the fire. Joker sighed and banged his fist on the table angrily.
'So where's the last place I would look?' Joker asked in his head.
'He'd expect that,' one voice said flatly. Joker was getting a massive headache and although the voices were helpful, it wasn't helping that they kept saying every possible outcome.
