Cry...

No.

C'mon, Cry

No, shut up!

Aw, you really gotta be like that?

Shut up, I killed you!

Maniacal giggles filled my head, a few making their way up and escaping my lips. My hands tightened their hold on the heavy metal crowbar I held in front of my body. Blood dripped off the tip, hitting a broken shard of porcelain with a sick splat. I fought the urge to throw up as my eyes landed on the limp body in the corner.

Isn't it exciting? The blood, the desperation, the insanity?

"Shut up!" I yelled aloud, slamming the crowbar into the concrete wall. "I'm fucking done with you!"

As if that would change anything.

I let out a scream and threw the crowbar at the corner of the small room I was in. It hit an exposed pipe and water burst out of it. It mixed with the blood and ran freely around the room, soaking my shoes in it's tangy, iron scent. In the poor lighting, it looked like I was standing in a sea of blood. The laughter returned, echoing off the low ceiling.

Look at yourself, Ryan! You think you killed me when you smashed in Minx's skull? No, no, brother, she was only the beginning!

"No, no," I muttered.

You all said you wanted to play a game...

"No, no, NO!" I shouted, images flashing through my head at light speed. The beginning of the trip, everyone smiling. The look of terror as everyone heard a voice whisper. A flash of purple in the shadows. Ken falling to the ground, clutching his throat. Felix sobbing over Marzia's body. Cheyenne screaming for me as we were separated. My crowbar slamming into the side of Minx's head. Those last few seconds as the madness faded from her eyes and she stated at me in hurt and confusion. Krism staring blankly at the corpse as she jammed a gun under her chin and pulled the trigger.

Ever since you said yes, madness lives in all of them, and it won't stop until you're all dead!

I collapsed in a heap on the floor, sobbing and clutching my head.

"Ryan?" asked a hoarse voice. The pressure on my temples subsided. A tanned girl with a shock of bleached blond hair that dramatically contrasted the ink black was standing in the doorway.

"Ch-Chey?" I stumbled forward. "Cheyenne! Wha-how-?"

"Shh," she whispered, rushing forward and pulling me into a hug. She stroked my hair soothingly, and I noticed offhandedly that she was shaking. I gripped her tightly, as if she might fade away at any second.

"Chey, I didn't mean to- I was just trying to-" I stumbled over my words in my urgency. "I never thought that saying yes would mean-"

"I know, Cry," she said, her voice cracking slightly. She pulled back and brushed her fingers over the broken contours of my mask. "I know."

Chey got up from her kneeling position and grabbed the gun from Krism's corpse. She paused, staring down at what remained of the Latina's face.

At the sight of so much blood, the pressure came back, filling my head with static. I let out a low keening noise, my vision throbbing with red.

"She never believed Minx got infected, y'know," she said quietly. "She thought He had gotten a body." She chuckled dryly, and I noticed that her glasses were missing a lens on one side and cracked on the other. "That's what we do for the people we love, isn't it? Live with the delusion that they're perfect?"

"Chey..." I felt a pit if despair lodge deep in my stomach. She came back over, kneeling in front of me. My hand absentmindedly reached up and touched a scratch on her cheek. She smiled at me, placing her hand on my chest and gently pressing her lips against mine.

"I love you, Ryan Terry. Never forget that. Whenever you feel like it's too much, remember that and keep going," she whispered, gently removing what was left of my mask. I figured out what she was going to do a second before she did it.

"No!" I cried out lunging forward, but it was already too late. With a rueful smile, she slipped on the mask. The white porcelain instantly morphed, starting to cover her face in the split second before she pressed the gun to her temple and pulled the trigger.

A voice sighed tiredly in my head.

Congratulations, Mr. Terry. You've won.
