I'm pretty sure I was dreaming of a dancing cat that was put into music lessons to learn to sing while dancing when I was woken up by my dad...weird.

"Ruth"

"Ruthhh"

"Ruth wake up!!" my father yelled as he tried to get me out of bed.

"Ruth gets up right now if you want me to make breakfast before I leave" he yelled while he ran downstairs.

"COMING!!!" I yelled back hurrying to find some half decent to wear to school, which was a task because I was supposed to do my washing yesterday but got lazy and forgot so I'm looking through the little amount of clothes not in the washing basket.

I finally found a pair of black ripped 'boyfriend' jeans and put a white band t-shirt on and chucked my Dr Martins on.

Running down the stairs as I brushed my hair through with my fingers, my hair is pretty short just above my shoulders so it's easy to handle in the mornings when I'm running late, like today.

I get to the kitchen just as dad is putting french toast on a plate for my little brother August, as he see's me he grabs another plate for me.

"Thanks, dad" I say

"No worries kid, Alright I'm off, Have fun at school you two," My father says as he collects his bag, kisses our heads and rushes out the door for work.

"So Mr Auggie are you ready for your first day of kindergarten?" I asked August while we sit at the kitchen bench stuffing our faces with french toast.

"hmm mmm wwure am," He says as I chuckle at his puffed checks filled with food and dripping maple syrup from his chin

"okay chew, swallow and let's wash your face Mr, we gotta go if you want to get there on time," I say to him as he finishes his food and I take the plates and put them in the dishwasher, then grab a paper towel for him to clean his face.

"All gone?" he asked

"You missed a bit, here" as I point to his cheek "and here" I point to his other cheek "and here" I point to his nose as he is furiously scrubbing his face I burst out laughing.

Once he catches on I was messing with him he starts pouting "Heyy that's not nice"

"I was just tricking you buddy," I say still laughing a bit "Come on we have to go or we will be late, go put your shoes on bud"

As he attempts to put his shoes on I grab my books and my shoulder bag and stuff them in ready for another school year, not really.

I have to go help him tie his shoes, he's still learning but we are in a rush this morning normally I would sit here until he's got it on his own but we don't have time today so I quickly tie them up for him.

"Ready, let's go," I say as I close the front door and start walking down the road while I hold August's hand so he doesn't run onto the road.

Awhile later we arrive at August's school, I'm a bit nervous this is his first day of school but confident enough that he is sociable enough to make friends.

"Okay this is you, Bud, make friends, have fun, don't get into too much mischief," I say to him while I crouch down on my feet.

He gives me a big hug and says "Okay, byeee" and runs off into the school where the teacher is standing ushering all the kids in.

I really wish my dad was here right now, he's so proud of him and the boy he is growing up to become but he has to work so much in order to provide for us so he doesn't see us as much as he would like, I think he's just happy I can be here for him.
