"How many times do I have to tell you Sam? Stay out of my room when I'm not home!" yelled Jackie as she rummaged through all her clothes to find the lucky bracelet that she always wore, rain or shine. She ran over to her desk and looked at the clock quickly as she searched intently through each of the drawers in her dresser. Finally, a shiny object caught her eye and she scooped up the silver vintage charm bracelet. It was the only thing left with her as a baby on the cold, stone steps of the adoption centre in her hometown in Massachusetts.
Jackie slung her bag over her shoulder and ran out of the room. As she hustled down the hall, she called out to her other brother, Adam. "Let's go sleepy head, we're already going to be late for school at the rate you're going! Sam, that goes for you too!" Adam walked out of his room, groggily. He was shirtless, as usual, and wore a pair of black boxer briefs. He scratched his head and shuffled over to her. His hair looked like he just got hit by a bus and was just raised from the dead. Jackie just shook her head, she was completely used to this. Her family was 100% comfortable around each other. They would walk around in practically nothing because they were so close.
"What time is it, Jaq?" Adam said as he stretched and let out a big yawn, then turning to walk into the bathroom.
"It's 7:40, Ad, you had better hurry up!" Just like that his eyes grew to the size of saucers and pulled a white v-neck t shirt over his head as fast as he could. Then he hopped into his room, pulling on a pair of red skinny jeans on as he struggled to pull them over his ankles. He turned around to try to close the door and just as Sam walked out of his room, fully dressed in a pair of khakis with a navy cardigan, he tripped and stumbled onto the floor. Sam burst out and bent over uncontrollably laughing.
"Aren't you going to change your underwear doofus?" She yelled to him.
"THERE'S NO TIME FOR THAT!" Jackie heard him call through the door.
I smiled and walked down the stairs. After all, it was her 17th birthday and it was going to be the best and weirdest day of her life.
