Staked: Chapter Eight
Jackie woke up in a pool of sweat. Her head was drenched and her arms were moist. There was no windows in the room so she got out of bed. Anneck was nowhere to be seen. She walked over to the door and heard two voices quietly talking. One of them she distinctively picked out as Annekc's but the other she did not recognize. Jaqueline turned the brass knob which cooled her hand.
She walked down the hall and the voices grew louder.
"She is just here for the night, Cora. I'm helping her with the transitioning process." She heard Anneck say. Jackie rounded the bend and found herself in a large open room. The light was dim but she noticed Anneck sitting in a chair, sipping a cup of tea across from a girl. Her face, Jaqueline could not make out since she was turned away from her but her hair was flaming red.
"I'm sorry, Jaq, did we wake you?" Anneck apologized. She shook her head and gave him a questioning look to he woman. She turned around and her bright blue eyes caught Jaqueline's.
"Ah, Jaqueline, this is my sister Cora." The woman walked over to Jackie and extended a hand.
"Nice to meet you, Anneck has told me that you have completed 3 of the 5 stages." Cora said, placing another hand on her shoulder in a manner to comfort her and make her less stressed.
"Uh, yes." Jaqueline said. "What stage was the first one, Anneck?"
"That was each of your bones breaking and replacing itself with new material that vampire bones had. Then you had the heart pain, that's your heart engulfing in flames, which burn out and leave your heart as ash. It is already dead, so now you are undead, therefore immortal."
"So yeah! There's that..." Jaqueline said, trying to sound not as completely confused as she was. "And then I had the sweating and grogginess. What else is left?" Jaqueline asked.
"You've got the fangs to come in and then you are going to have urges to drink and kill humans. Wether you are a full bred or not, you will need to feed, otherwise you will be weak. I'm here to help you learn to feed from the vein and make people forget. We are going to do some research and try to find out wether you are a full bred or a half breed.
While we work, you can go back to bed or get something to eat. You can still eat, just in case you are wondering. Your stomach still needs to be filled occasionally, it's just that blood is the main thing that pumps our hearts." Cora explained. She nodded and smiled.
Anneck ran over to her, "I'll show her to the kitchen. You keep working. I'm really grateful for this Cora. Thanks for your help." He placed a hand on my waist and guided me down a series of hallways. There were so many rooms in this place. Each one with a vintage feel to it. Jaqueline smiled when they neared Anneck's room. She could tell, because his name had been carved neatly in calligraphy into the door's dark oak surface.
"Wow. It fits you perfectly." Jaqueline said as she walked into the room. She ran her fingers across the door frame. The room was large with big windows. The draped were navy. A large book case ran along the wall beside his bed. There was a small table in the corned which held a beautiful record player. It was very plain but seemed to have some little piece resembling each era. There were newspapers from the 1940's in frames on the walls. He stood next to Harry Truman, and President Franklin Roosevelt. Anneck smiled at her and took her hand pulling her out of the room. "Thank you. Now, I've got a lot of work to do, all of which is for you, so let me get some food into your stomach and get back to work," he said jokingly.
They walked down past a few more rooms and turned into a beautiful kitchen. The entire room had a white feel to it. This room was one of the only rooms in the house that she had seen so far that looked really modern.
"Cora designed this one. I'm kind of a sucker for the past." He smiled flirtatiously at her. Suddenly his hands found themselves on her waist.
"I've been dying to get away from her and be with you for ages."
Jaqueline let out a deep breath. His body pressed on hers, it was cold but she liked it.
"I like you Jaqueline," he said in a shaky whisper.
She looked up into his eyes and smiled. "I like you too Anneck," Jackie replied.
Anneck pulled away and went over to the fridge, sending gasps through Jackie's body.
"So," he said grinning at her mischievously. "Do you want the scandalous preacher or the wrongly convicted murderer?" He said holding up two bags of blood.
