Staked: Chapter Seven
She smiled at him and fell onto the bed. Droplets of water lingered on her neck and collar bones. Her pale skin looked vulnerable against her towel.
"So..." Anneck said, brushing a stray hair out of her face. "Do you want to take a nap? Or watch a movie in our screening room? Want some wine?"
"Wine? Why do you have wine. Won't your parents kill you?" Jackie said, in intrigued by his bad boy side that steals liquor from his parents.
" My parents left me in '34 I turned. I had an adoptive family but I left them in 1936. I didn't want to hurt them. The temptations for blood will do things to you and I loved them too much." Anneck said, looking at the ground. It was obviously a tender subject for conversation.
"Does that mean I should leave mine too?" Jackie responded after a few moments of silence.
"No, I can help you through it. But first, we have to find out if you're a full bred or not."
Jackie sighed in relief. She couldn't leave another family. It would hurt her too much. Family was the most important thing in the world to her. She loved her brothers, even though they were the most annoying little twerps in the world. Her mother was her role model. She was beautiful, extremely intelligent, and the most caring person she had ever known. Her dad was handsome, very toned, with dirty blonde hair that was always slicked back. He was a lawyer and took his job very seriously. He was strict but loved his kids more than the whole world. He would play baseball with them in the summers and take them on incredible vacations to London where they visited their grandparents.
"So we are here alone?" Jackie said , moving in closer to him and smiling at the ground.
"That's correct." Anneck confirmed, "Can I get you that wine?"
Jackie laughed and nodded her head. "Make yourself comfortable darling. You're still going to be hot but you'll be groggy too. If you want, you can stay in your panties, just keep a shirt on." He winked at her. "Help yourself to my bed. It's nice and cool, vampires like the cold."
Jackie's face turned red and she smiled at him. "Thank you Anneck. For everything. You're amazing."
"You're very welcome. I know what it's like to be in a super different situation. I was adopted too. My vampire parents left me too. They were young and in love. Their relationship wasn't serious. They basically used each other for their bodies so when they had me, they didn't think they were up for the challenge of raising a kid so they dropped me at the nearest adoption centre and hit the road." He said sighing. "I'll be right back with that wine, beautiful." Jaqueline smiled. The words coming out of his mouth all sounded perfect and sent chills through her body. He was perfect. He had clearly been through so much and was still vulnerable but strong at the same time. He closed the door gently behind him and she listened to his footsteps fading down the hall.
Jackie dropped her towel and it fell at her feet. She put her Victoria's Secret panties back on and walked over to Anneck's drawers. She opened them and ran her fingers over all his beautiful vintage styled clothes. She picked out a hoody and pulled hit over her head. Just as she got it on she felt like she was going to pass out. Jaqueline's energy level had gone from 97% to just about 20%. She was tired; so tired that she almost passed out on Anneck's bed. Then he walked in with two glasses of red wine. He smiled when he saw what she was wearing but Jackie was too tired to be embarrassed.
He handed her the glass and sat down beside her on the bed. She leaned her head on his shoulder and sipped the glass of wine slowly, trying not to slurp and be unladylike. "This is amazing." Jackie said. She had only had wine a couple of times when her mother sneaked her a glass or two on special occasions.
"I've been saving it since 1946. I wanted to wait until I met someone special to share it with. It was given to me by Franklin Delano Roosevelt himself in the final days of the war. I was a head general and he met with me to honor my services in the war." Jackie tried to picture Anneck in an old fashioned military suit. She smiled at him. He had called her special.
Jackie fell asleep on Anneck's chest and dreamed of blood. Horrifying pictures flashed through her head. Death. Blood. Murder. It scared her. But it was only the beginning.
