Brian

Josh pulled me out into the street and pushed me into his truck. He walked around the truck and got it to the drivers seat. We drove down the street in silence. We past the ally where Hunter and I saved Ashley, Josh drove for fifteen minutes after that without talking. "I can't believe you did that," He said breaking the silence.

"I'm sorry, I did what I needed to do," I said.

"Brian, you know why I use those patches, you shouldn't have broke it. By the way how the hell did you break it? Those things are almost indestructible," he said glancing at me.

"When your best friend is shot down by the police you sort of get desperate," I said trying to make him feel bad.

"Hunter's not dead. Neither is Karley," Josh said trying to make me feel better.

"You don't know that, do you?" I said, trying to believe him, but can't.

"I know I don't know a lot about what they're doing, but I know Michaels wants all of you together, alive," he said.

"Well I guess when you work in a shit hole like that you hear things," I said.

"Isn't someone quite the pissy bitch," he said joking, but I was being serious.

"Why do you work there anyway?" I asked.

"Mom and my dad made me," he said.

"Well, Mary was a bitch anyway so that makes sense," I said.

"Okay, you don't have to like her, but she's my mom so keep it to yourself," he said and pulled out onto the highway.

"I'll say what I want about her."

"No you won't. After all she did for you. After all I did for you."

"She never liked me, and all you did was adopt me then dump me off with her."

He didn't say anything back, but I knew he was mad. I didn't care. "Have you ever thought about what it would be like if I hadn't adopted you? Or if your parents hadn't been reported?"

"Yeah, I would have been in a way better place," I said. He didn't look at me. Josh turned off the highway and stopped on the shoulder, he turned and looked at me. He looked mad, I don't think I've ever seen him this mad.

"You bitch!" Josh yelled. He swung his arm back, I heard a crack as his fist collided with my nose. I grabbed my nose, trying to hold back tears. Josh had a horrified look on his face, realizing what he had just done. "Brian, I didn't mean it."

I had already unbuckled and was out of the truck before I could say anything back. I ran about twenty feet into the grass off the highway and collapsed. I couldn't hold back tears any longer, I cried. I looked at my hands and there was blood all over them. Josh broke my nose. I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Go away," I said to try to hide that I was crying.

"Brian, I didn't mean it, I would never hurt you," he said. I didn't say anything back, because I knew he was right. I deserved it. He pulled me to my feet and walked me back to the car, I got back into the passenger seat. Josh handed me some napkins.

"Thanks," I mumbled and put the napkins to my nose to try to stop the bleeding. He pulled back on the highway. We didn't say anything to each other.

"We have almost a three hour drive, you should get some sleep," he said and messed up my hair. I brushed his hand off.

"Don't touch me," I said.

"Brian, I'm sorry, you know I wouldn't do anything to you," he said glancing at me.
