my heart burned,
and my stomach wrenched.
my blood boiled.
my mind spun.
i grew dizzy,
and my eyes watered.
i swear my jaw dropped a little.
but how could i help it?
i was over here
growing crazy over a boy.
but that boy was growing crazy over a girl that wasn't me.
and i couldn't do anything to change it.

that night, i spilled to my mother.
she explained to me that this happens in life.
all the time, actually.
she told me to let go.
and i said,
"mom? how can i let go of someone i love?"
she said to me,
"honey. 'if you love someone, set them free. if they come back, they're yours. if they don't, they never were.'"

i've lived by this quote ever since.
