I started paying closer attention to my surroundings. The trees were large, the animals were abundant, everything was normal. I tried to look for markings anywhere that would reveal my location to me, but there was nothing. I only saw nature undisturbed, in it's purest form. I had absolutely no clue where I was.
Since my investigating wasn't working, I set my focus on Leah's trail. I tried to push myself past my limit. I was doing good, I kept my limit speed for hours. The rush of cool air against my face helped me focus on tracking her scent. Her scent led me to a wide river. I was thirsty, so I drank from it. While I was swallowing the refreshing water, I realized her scent disappeared. Her tracks ended right at the water's edge. I searched up and down along the rivers's edge for her scent, but I couldn't find it. I returned back to the place where her scent disappeared and sniffed the air. I hoped her scent was still somewhere in the air. I inhaled again facing the vast river. I caught something. It was faint. I had no other leads, so I followed it. The river was wide but shallow. I ran across it with little trouble. I smelled for her and found her trail. Her scent had gotten stronger when I reached the other side of the river. I supposed she must have cooled off in the river earlier, like I had done in the morning. The water here was cold it felt nice. Once again, my search continued and i ran after her trail as fast as I could.
Her scent was really fresh. She must be only a few hours ahead of me. Would I be able to make to her before she phased? The sun was lowering in the sky, so I pushed myself faster. I sprinted as fast as I could. I was almost flying through the air. I only touched to ground to push my paws into the cold earth and leap back into the sky. The forest was becoming blurred around me, but I noticed a half-eaten moose caracas. I guessed that was Leah's meal. I remembered that she used to hate the taste of raw flesh. I guess she had changed her mind since I last knew her. Still, she only ate half of the creature. The moose was huge. I wondered why she didn't get a smaller one, if she wasn't going to eat it all.
My confidence grew stronger with every stride I took. She was near me, she was somewhere, I could feel it. The sun was setting, but I felt she was close. I didn't want to phase back and risk losing her. This game of cat and mouse was getting tiresome. I just wanted to go home. I tried to make my strides longer. The sun continued to set. The daylight started to dwindle. Although it was getting dark, her scent was so alive. It was all I could smell. She had to be close. I felt anticipation course my veins. I knew in my gut she was around here. I heard something in the distance. It was a movement. Was that her? I was sure of it. She must have just woken up. If I could hear her, she must be able to her me approaching. Suddenly, I was scatterbrained. I still had no idea what I was going to say to her when we spoke. I would have to improvise and hope that I say the right things. My eyes searched for her. There was barely any light in the sky. Everything in the thick forest was turning into a shadow. Never the less, I should still be able to find her.
I was happy my tracking was over. The sooner I found her, the sooner I would be able to return to my Nessie. The name brought pain to me, but I tried not to focus on it. I looked around again, my eyes scanning the surrounding trees. I saw something in the distance dash behind a rock. It was Leah. She was still in her human form. I approached the boulder slowly my speed. Before I could reach the boulder. Leah jumped out from behind the boulder in her wolf form.
Jake? Why the hell are you here? A flash of emotions ran through her as she saw me. She was completely bewildered, mostly. However the emotions like anger, fear, and awe also flowed through her.
I had hoped that I could improvise something great to say. However, I couldn't. I'm here to ask you something. I attempted to hide my thoughts from revealing what I was here to do.
