"Prison ain't that bad," Taylor's inmate said. "I've been in here for about fifteen years and it's nice. We got, let's see here.... a clean shoe, half a deck of playing cards, a harmonica, some rusty nails..."

The inmate's voice trailed off as Taylor thought about the outside world. It's only been a couple of days, he reminded himself for the fiftieth time. He was huddled up in a corner of the cell, already freezing to death.

"Here's my jacket if you're cold," the inmate tossed him a thick piece of fabric. "What's your name by the way?"

Taylor sniffled in the cold as he put on the jacket. "Taylor. How about you?"

"Nice to meet you Taylor. I'm Benji. I haven't had a cellmate in such a while," Benji marveled. "You look like you could be my age. How'd you get here?"

Taylor took note of Benji's talkative manner. Cause he hasn't had a cellmate in a while, cut him some slack... he sighed. "I killed my dad."

"What! What'd ya gotta do that for?" Benji laughed a little. Taylor didn't really feel like talking, but he didn't want to seem rude.

"I don't know."

"Oh that's okay.. I was arrested when I was two years old. I stole this glittery shoe with a fake diamond attached to it at the Gymboree store and got caught. Sometimes I wonder how my parents are doing and how they told our relatives that their two year old kid got arrested for stealing. Maybe they didn't at all. They could've made up some story about a boarding school...."

Benji's voice trailed off again. Taylor thought about escaping prison. He needed to escape right away so he could smack Lee upside the head.

"Taylor?" A prison guard opened the cell gate. "You have a visitor."

A visitor?  Taylor burst up. Ara? Mom?

He followed the guard across a long hall. When Taylor saw Lee's face staring back at him from the other side of the talk window, he knew it was too late to hide so he just sat in front of his friend.

"How's prison been treating you?" Lee asked nonchalantly.

"Pretty good. The food's the same as school food." Taylor cracked a smile.

They both chuckled loudly.

"Hey, don't worry about the Ara comment by the way. That was a joke," Lee said.

"Lee, even if you weren't joking I wouldn't worry. You're too chicken to even call her cute," Taylor said. "Two years in here won't hurt me much."

Lee smiled at him before getting up from his seat. "I will consider your words as a challenge."
