PEETA'S POV

I just finished chatting to Effie on the phone, it's Katniss' birthday in less than a month and, of course being Effie, she wants to hold a big Capitol Party Spectacular. I tried to let her down easy, reminding her that Katniss would probably much rather have a nice dinner at home with a few friends and family. Effie understood, I think.

Then came up the subject about Plutarch and his memorial, and she's expecting us to - and i quote - "be there on tuesday, 9.00am, sharp!"

I'm not sure what Effie acts like in her own time, or how she's taking this death. I can imagine, though. Plutarch and Effie were very close, and although he has gone onto a better place (we presume), she still wants him here.

The sound of Katniss' footsteps stop my daydreaming. "Peeta?" she calls.

"Yeah babe?" I respond.

"Do you know where all of the diapers have gone? I swear I left them in Willow's room."

I chuckle to myself. I don't know how but she sounds so cute even saying this.

"They're in the bathroom cupboard! Under the sink!" I call back to her.

I hear her walking back upstairs, and then hear Willow start to scream. Instinctively, I bolt up the staircase and straight into Willow's room. There I see Katniss cradling her in her strong arms whispering "It's okay baby girl. Hey, it'll be alright, Mumma's here, you just had a little fall" But I notice that something isn't right. When I look down at her right leg I see that it's twisted the wrong way around.

"Oh, shit! We need to go to the hospital!" I try not to panic, Willow's still screaming. Katniss looks up at me, confused. I motion towards her leg. Katniss looks up at me, tears forming in her eye. "I think it's just a break. We need to get her down to the hospital quick though. Let's go!"

We rush outside, Katniss holding Willow carefully, and run out the door to the car we basically never use. I get Haymitch to come along, because i'm sure he'll be angry if he finds out before any of us tell him. I drive, Katniss is in the back with Willow and Haymitch is in the passengers seat.

KATNISS' POV

"Peeta, can you go any faster?!" I yell. Willow is still crying, and I feel awful. I shouldn't have left her on her changetable unsupervised. I sure hope she's okay.

Haymitch has come along, too. Trying to calm both me and Willow down. We turn a corner and into the hospital carpark. As soon as we stop I jump out of the car and rush to the door.

*15 MINUTES LATER*

Willow has been taken to the examination room, so the doctor can decide whether she's broken a bone. Wherever I go, ever since the first Hunger Games, I get stares from women and men. Mostly people who feel sorry for me. They all know about Prim. But as always, I just smile kindly and keep walking.

About a half an hour later the doctor comes back and tells Peeta and I that Willow, infact, has broken a bone in her leg, and won't be able to come home tonight. I ask if I can stay with her but he says no.

"She needs to be examined further, not for the bone, but as we were looking at that, we detected somthing unusual that needs to be looked at. But I assure you that it is probably nothing."

"Probably?! What kind of unusual thing have you found? Look, you need to give us all of the answers, Doc. As her father I deserve to know." Peeta mimics my thoughts.

"I suggest you calm down, Mr. Mellark. My team of very well-trained doctors and I are doing the very best we can. So I think it's best to just leave us to do our work. And as for the 'unusual thing', we believe that your daughter may have a bloodclot in her lower kidney. Now, as I said we don't know if this is true, but if it is, it is very unusual for such a young girl, and may be fatal. It's best if you both just step back and let us do our job." As he starts to walk away, Peeta grabs him by the back of his collar and pushes him into the wall.

With his face about two millimetres away from the doctor's, peeta spits back at him "I will not be treated so poorly when my daughter is at risk, you hear me-"

Just then Haymitch yanks him backward and tells him to calm down. "You're only causing trouble, boy. Just let the man do his work and we will see what happenes from there." Peeta nods and slowly walks the opposite direction, away from the doctors' stunned face.

Haymitch pulls me into a hug and we also head back to the car, about to go home and wait for some news.
