Brooke pulled me into an embrace and squeezed as tight as she could. Just then, some kind of sticky liquid dropped onto Brookes' shoulder. She pulled away from me to inspect it. "Ew, what is this stuff?" I became worried. I looked up and almost had a heart attack. A xenomorph was directly above me and Brooke. The creature went for Brooke, but I pushed her out of the way and it grabbed me instead. "Brooke, run, get out of here!" I yelled. I reached for my sword, but couldn't get a grip on it. The weapon fell from my belt, and I was completely defenceless. It took me away. I struggled to get free but to no avail. It dragged me to the roof and made me take a whiff of its horrible breath. I instantly was knocked out. When I woke, I was being dragged through the city by the creature. I pulled out the M-9 strapped to my leg and shot the creature in the back of the head. Its head exploded into tiny pieces, and I was free from its grasp. I wandered the streets for some time, trying to figure out where I was. I started to remember, "Brooke!" I ran as fast as I could through the city, trying to find something I recognized. It was no use. Everything looked as strange as the surface of Mars. I held the M-9 in my hand because I had no idea when an alien might jump out at me. As I ran through the streets of the city, I was hearing screeching behind me, but I kept running not wanting to look behind me. I hid inside of a small gas station and went behind the counter. I pointed the M-9 towards the door and waited for something to come through. When nothing came through, I relaxed for a bit, taking in a deep breath of relief. I sat down behind the counter and placed the gun next to me. Later that night, I was shivering from the cold. "Damn man, I really wish I could start a fire or something," I said to myself. I started to shiver, so I got up and started to walk around the gas station. While I was looking around, I found a meat cleaver next to the slushie machine. "Why in the world would someone have this here?" I asked myself, not questioning it any further. I had another close range weapon that I could use since I lost my sword. I felt my belt and missed the weight on my hip. I sat back down behind the counter and looked around for a blanket or something, but I found nothing. I was literally freezing to death, and I could feel it. I started to shiver violently, and couldn't stop, even when I tried. I could hear the screeching of the monsters outside, and I knew that I couldn't face them in this state, so I crawled into one of the cupboards behind the counter, and shut the door, with my gun lying next to me. I didn't get any sleep that night because it was so cold. The next morning, I crawled out of my little hidy hole and holstered the weapon I kept next to me all night. I popped my head out the door of the gas station to see if there were no aliens around. I couldn't see any of the monsters around, so I started down the street to where I thought I was taken from. I started to realize that Brooke and Miles, are on their own. I knew that they could get by without me, but for how long. I lead the group, in a way. Like Rock in The Living Dead. In a way, this apocalypse was kind of like that. I wandered through the streets looking for something I recognized. Then, I saw a shed with smoke coming out the top. I pulled out my M-9 and quickly opened the door. It was Miles. "Miles, what are you doing here?" I looked around for Brooke but she wasn't there. "Where is Brooke?" Miles got up from his fire. "She left this," He handed me a note in Brooke's handwriting. The note read, 'I went to go look for Devin, please don't come looking for me, I will be back soon. Love ya, Brooke.' I ran out the door as fast as I could, so fast, I don't think Miles even saw me leave. I was sprinting through the city as fast as I could. I noticed a xenomorph coming from across a bridge that had collapsed. It was walking on a beam that leads from one side of the bridge to the other. I saw Brookes pack on the other side. I aimed my gun at the alien and unloaded the entire clip on the creature. It fell to the ground below, smashing into mush. I ran across the beam as fast as I could, not even noticing that the beam was unstable. When I got to the other side, I ran to Brooke's pack and picked it up. When I did, I found the drool of an alien all over the pack. I slung the backpack on, and found a trail of drool, leading into one direction. I followed the drool as far as I could until I came to a building that was really run down. I was hesitant, but I entered the building. What I found, shocked me. When I entered the building, I stepped in a squishy, black material. I realized, that I had entered the nest. I took a few steps into the nest and stepped on something hard. I looked down and was astonished to see my sword lying on the ground. "She must be here if my sword is here. There is no way it could be here, unless Brooke took it, and was taken here." I said to myself. "I'm coming, Brooke!" I yelled into the nest. I picked up the sword and belted it on, then continued further into the dark recesses that the aliens called home. I couldn't see anything, so I looked through Brooke's pack for some kind of light. I found food, water, and a couple other things she brought with her, like tools, and rope, but no light. I put the pack back on and continued forward. The ground was flooded with water. Everywhere I stepped, the water soaked into my converse. I saw egg next to the wall, unopened. I kept my distance from them, as to not set one off. The entire time I was in the nest, I could hear aliens screeching like the cries of a dying animal, only worse. I continued on and came to a long narrow corridor. As I was walking down the corridor, I tripped on a piece of hive resin and fell right on top of one of the eggs. I got off of it as quick as I could, and I started to open. I ran as fast as I could down the corridor, looking for something to hide in. I came to a locker, and I opened the door and stepped inside. I looked out of the tiny slits in the locker door to see if it was safe to leave. The tiny parasite crawled right in front of me, obviously looking for me. I opened the door as quick as I could and slashed at the facehugger with my sword. It split in two, and the acid went everywhere. I heard an alien coming down the corridor to investigate, so I hid in the locker again. When it went by, I held my breath as to not alert the creature of my presence. It walked by without even looking at the locker but came back. My face started to turn red, and the alien wouldn't leave. I exhaled, and the alien walked up to the locker and ripped the door off its hinges. It pinned me to the ground and was about to extend its secondary mouth into my skull. But I kicked the monster off my chest, and it stumbled back. I took the chance to slash at it with the sword, and I cut the monster in half. The acid spilled everywhere. As I tried my best to avoid it, I could hear more aliens running down the corridor. I ran as fast as I could down the hallway, slashing at any alien that got too close. I came to a room, full of all the victims that these creatures had collected over time. I looked around and saw Brooke hanging from the wall on the other side of the room. Memories of Ashely reappeared in my mind. I started to tear up but remembered that I had one job to do. I ran as fast as I could to Brooke, and cut her down. She fell to the ground and into my arms. She was out cold. "Damn it!" I yelled, slamming my fist into the wall. In doing so, I triggered one of the nearby eggs to open, so I slung Brooke's arm over my shoulder, and carried her out to what may or may not have been a back entrance. "Hold on Brooke, I'm going to get you out of here." I said, not knowing if she could hear me or not. I could hear a couple aliens and a facehugger behind us, so I tried my best to go a bit faster. I saw a window that was just barely covered in hive resin, so I broke what part of the window was showing, and looked out of it. The window led to a part of the roof of the next building. I pushed Brooke through the window, and carefully set her down on the roof. I started to climb out the window, but I could hear the aliens running down the corridor. Brooke woke up and looked at me. "Devin? You're ok!" She said, with joy. "Yeah, let's not assume that yet." I told her. She looked at me frightened. I told her, "Don't worry, I'm not leaving again!" I Pulled my head back in the window, and she exclaimed, "Devin, what the hell are you doing?" I drew the sword and faced the aliens coming toward me. "I ain't dying today!" I yelled, and when the first alien came rushing at me, I slashed it with the sword. The weapon went right through the creatures chest. "Don't like it very much, do you?" I asked the creature as if the lifeless body could still hear me. I pushed it off my sword and sheathed it. I broke off some of the hive resin and more of the window, so I could climb out. Just then, the facehugger came up and latched onto my face. I struggled to take it off, but then, it just came off on its own. The parasite just stood there, probably staring at me. I looked down the hallway and saw the other aliens just standing, and staring also. I remembered, the last time they were just standing there, a creature that was not too friendly was around. I looked behind me, and nothing. Then, I heard a scream come from the outside. "Brooke!" I yelled and broke the window. The 'Xeno King' was standing right in front of her, about to pick her up. She was frozen in fear. "Get out of there Brooke!" I yelled. The hole in the window was still to small for me to fit, so I couldn't get to her. "Brooke!" I yelled again, trying to get through to her. Suddenly, someone came running down the street, yelling at the top of their lungs. When I looked, I saw Miles running at the giant monster with his machete. "oh no, Miles, don't. You will die too!" I yelled at him, but he continued to run at the creature. It turned and faced him, and he ran up to it and started hitting it in the leg with his weapon. The alien's hardened skin was unaffected by the blows. It grabbed him and chomped down. "Miles!" I yelled. The creature dropped him. He was still alive but dying. There is no way, he could survive an attack like that. "You bastard!" I yelled at the monster. Then it stomped away. "No, get back here you overgrown lizard! Take me!" I yelled, but it didn't respond and continued to walk away. I finally pulled myself through the window and stood in the middle of the street. I pulled out the gun from its holster and began to shoot at the enormous creature. "Get back here!" I screamed. The alien didn't even flinch as I shot at it, missing every shot. I turned to see Brooke pulling Miles into a bear hug. "Miles, no, don't you leave me. Don't do it, please!" She said. I kept my distance. "This is all my fault." I said to myself. "If I would have gone back for Katherine, then she might be here, and Brooke would have never pulled me into that ally, and I would never have gotten taken, and we would never be here!" I yelled. Brooke looked back at me with tears in her eyes. "Devin, it's not your fault. It was your business why you were so upset, I should never have tried to get you to talk about it." She told me, but I turned around not wanting to face her, and the body that lay beside her. "Devin, look at me! None of this is your fault! You came to save me, that's the most heroic thing I have ever seen you do!" She yelled. I looked back at her and replied, "Yeah, well this 'heroic act' is what got Miles killed!" I immediately regretted the volume of which I said that. Brooke didn't respond after that. I felt really bad about how I said it. Brooke, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ye- Before I could get the last word out, she stood up and pulled me in and hugged me as hard as she could. She was crying hysterically. I hugged her back, and we just stood there for half an hour, hugging out our feelings for what had just occurred. I'm sorry Brooke, I really am. She continued to cry. I don't even think she heard me. I pulled away and walked over to Miles. He was still breathing. I looked at Brooke, and she knew what had to be done. "Do it, I don't like to see him like this." She said. I looked back at Miles, and I could make out a slight nod like he knew it had to be done. I pulled out the M-9 and pointed at his head. A tear ran down my face, I looked away, and said, "Go to a better place, man." And pulled the trigger. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I didn't want to do it, but it had to be done. It was dark by the time I pulled the trigger. I walked in the direction the Xeno King had gone, and Brooke asked "Devin, where are you going?" I looked back, and said "To kill that bastard!" I said through clenched teeth.
