Bryce has made things pretty clear that he doesn’t like me. I can see it when he looks at me. He looks straight through me, straight through to the other side of the room.
He doesn’t like my stuff being left in the lounge room, even though it’s always clean and packed away.
He doesn’t like that I use the shower at night, around the time he finishes work, which is when he wants to shower.
Or when I go for a run, I land back in the front door puffing and stepping to the beat of my music. He really doesn’t like that.
I don’t really speak to him either, or at least, I’ve stopped trying. Apparently trying to get to know him was the wrong thing to do.
And believe me, I won’t try again.
He just has this negative aura around him. And good looks don’t compensate for everything. The negative vibe stays there, even when I look in his crystal blue eyes. Don’t. I tell myself. I can’t go there. He’s attractive, yes. But he definitely could have been blessed with nicer manners, or people skills.
And the girls he brings home! One after the other, like they are disposable toys that he can throw out. He may have made a comment about Nick being a player, but Jesus, Nick is nothing compared to this.
Does he try to fuck out all his feelings?
Does he even have feelings? That’s another question.
The boys party like crazy too.
Every Friday and Saturday night there are parties somewhere in the town. One night Nick and Bryce will go to the pub, and not come back until the next morning, complaining about their hangovers and sore heads.
Other times, they will bring me.
A party is not a situation that I’m unfamiliar with. Eventually you learn how to get to know everyone.
So that’s just what I did.
Everyone seems to know everything about the town and everyone in it.
The baker deals weed, that's where everyone gets it from. A girl named Tahnee gets it from him and it spreads from there.
Every corner of the town has something significant about it, I have found. People even meet up at the highschool after hours.
People know this town so well, there are no secrets. They know everything and everyone.
Except Bryce.
No one knows about Bryce, except that he moved in with Nick last year and dropped out of school.
And then I feel the need to ask around and see what other people have heard. Absolutely nothing.
But Bryce and Nick hang out with some other jock like characters at these parties. They all girl hunt, all the time. I think they even have competitions going for how many girls they can get in one night. I would say I’ve tried to avoid them for that reason, but I am always drawn to the action and drama.
“Hey babe, nice arse” One would say to me
“Thanks it’s not yours for the taking” I replied, walking away to get another drink. I am stopped by another male figure, and I look up with no recognition of who he is.
“I’ll get you a drink honey. Just wait here” He says.
“I wanna see what you’re putting in there, though” I reply and we walk together to the drinks table.
“I haven’t seen you around here before” He states, grabbing a beer from the esky and handing it to me. No one cares that I’m under 18. Actually, no one has asked how old I am.
“That’s because I’m new”
“Yeah? Where from?”
“Melbourne”
“What brought you up here?”
“Freedom”
“I like that answer, wanna dance?” He asks me, pulling my hand from my side and dragging him to the dance floor. I nod my head and follow him. We don’t walk to the gathering of people dancing in the centre, instead he leads me to the line of trees and he sits down.
“Well?” I ask
“Well what?” He answers, smirking at me.
“Are you going to dance? Or just sit here and watch?”
“I’ve got a nice view, thankyou very much”
“Ok then, but that means I have to dance alone!” I answer him, sweetening my voice in a flirty manner. He winks at me and takes a sip from his beer. I bring mine up to my lips and swallow the bitter substance, before laying it down next to him. I take a step back, further into the tree line and start to dance around the trees, cheekily moving my body.
Eventually, the music stops and he applauds me, before signalling me to come over to him.
“I’d say you’re the best dancer out there” I crouch down next to him, and take my beer in my hands, when he moves it away and takes my hand instead.
Pulling me in closer, so that I am sitting on his lap, he rakes his eyes up and down my body. I find that he has rock solid abs, as my hands rest against his chest.
He runs his hands up the back of my top and around to the front of my bra, then he pulls me in to kiss him.
I taste the bitterness of beer, but I can’t tell if it’s from my mouth or his. The kiss is rough, needy. He pushes his tongue through to try and gain access into my mouth, after a few seconds I allow it. His tongue roams my mouth and I groan into the kiss.
He removes his hands from under my top and moves them down to my pants. Hooking his fingers around the loop in my jeans, he tries to pull them down. I stop kissing him and pull back.
“Look” I start
“Baby, let’s just do it” He interrupts me
“No. I really don’t think I’m ready for that” He gives me a puzzled look and whispers
“Virgin?”
“Yeah” I reply. He pulls me in again and continues to kiss me, across my jaw and down my neck.
“We aren’t doing it” I tell him, but he continues to kiss me. I try to wriggle out of his grip, but it’s too strong and he doesn’t let me go. Crap.
“Oi, mate. Let her go you mongrel.” Calls a familiar voice. The boy turns he head up to see where the sound is coming from and recoils from me when he sees who it is.
Bryce is walking towards me, with his hands in his pockets and his black hoodie on.
“Anna, we’re going”
“Ok” I mumble and crawl up from the ground. The guy gives me one more look, before scurrying away to where more people were gathered. Bryce turns around and looks at me.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
“Um, I don’t know. Maybe I was just having some fun”
“He could have raped you!”
“I told him to stop Bryce!”
“And like he was going to listen?”
“I could have fought him off Bryce. I’m not a weak little princess that needs a prince to come and save her”
“Weak little slut” He mumbles under his breath.
“What did you just call me?” I answer, starting to fume “I can’t believe you would call me that. What the hell have I done to you? God, I stay away from you as much as I can! Ok! Don’t judge me if you aren’t ever going to know me! You hypocrite!” I yell and storm towards where I see Nick standing with his mates.
