~~~Buzzing.
Annoying, skin picking, buzzing. The same buzzing that's been going off since last night.
I bit down hard on my cheek and blindly reached out to the table next to me and proceeded in palming the surface until the stupid device making the stupid table vibrate made contact with my skin.
I pulled it forward, blindly fumbled for the 'answer' button, and shoved the mobile against my ear groggily.
"What?" I spat tiredly.
"Osoroshi!"
My eyes flew open at the sound of Iida's voice, and I was suddenly reminded of where I was. I sat up with my legs hanging off the side of the reclining couch and slowly stood up as to not wake Bakugou — who was sleeping soundly next to me.
I made a beeline for the hallway, and with another glance over my shoulder, I brought the phone back up to my ear.
"Tenya?" I asked breathlessly.
"I need you to come to the hospital right away," he said dismissively, tone rushed. "I've been trying to contact you all night. I wasn't going to originally.. but —"
"Why are you at the hospital?" I asked, trying to keep my tone low.
"I'll explain everything when you get here," he replied curtly. "Just... please, say you'll come. I need you here right now, blind rage or not."
I pursed my lips at that and let my gaze fall to the wood-tiled floor beneath my feet. "Alright, fine. Give me twenty minutes."
"Thank you, I'll see you then."
I hung up the phone, and in taking a deep needed breath, made my way back into Bakugou's living room. He was still sleeping, and I hated the idea of waking him — but I couldn't just leave either.
I inched forward slowly and crouched down beside him before gently shaking his shoulder. He frowned cutely and made a groaning sound as he nuzzled into the couch cushion.
"Katsuki," I cooed gently, giving him another shake. "Katsuki, I have to get going, wake up."
At that, his crimson hues shimmered to life as he looked up tiredly at me. He ushered a tired smile, stretched, and sat up.
"Why so soon?"
"Aizawa isn't happy that I've been gone all night," I lied, sitting on the edge of the coffee table across from him. "He's been calling all night."
Bakugou made an 'ah' sound before brushing the bangs away from my forehead so he could kiss it. My heart reluctantly fluttered. "Alright. Need me to walk you home?"
I shook my head under his touch and smiled weakly. "That's okay, I'm sure Aizawa would have a hernia if he saw me with you."
"Good point," he smirked and helped me back to my feet. "Text me when you get there, then."
"Of course."
Bakugou smiled, kissed my lips quickly, and finally allowed me to leave his house.
Once around his street corner, I broke off into a sprint toward Aizawa's. I was almost positive that he was still sleeping since it was only 7:40 in the morning on a Saturday, and took that luxury to sneak in, change my clothes, and book it toward the hospital downtown.
During the whole run back home, I couldn't help but scold myself for lying to Bakugou. Why did I, anyway? It's not like I was sneaking off to reconcile with Iida, there was something clearly wrong. I knew I wasn't heartless, I knew I had to go. I just wish I knew why I couldn't tell Bakugou that.
Not only did that strike a cord in me, but also the fact that Bakugou believed me. I had a very long history of being a bad liar, and knowing that Bakugou had so easily believed me just then wasn't a comforting thought. Knowing that I was getting better at lying, to me, wasn't a thing that I should take pride in.
I didn't know what was going on with me or if it'd end, but I did know that I definitely didn't like it.
__________
I arrived to the hospital twenty-five minutes after the phone call with Iida, and after a word with the receptionist, I had discovered that the Iida family and whomever it was that was receiving care was in the Intensive Care Unit on the fourth floor.
The ride on the elevator felt like centuries instead of seconds, and when those metal doors opened, I sprinted down the corridor whilst darting my eyes down stray hallways in search for the familiar hair of navy blue.
"Osoroshi!" Iida's familiar voice pulled me to a stop and I turned to see him sitting in a chair with an older woman sitting beside him. Both of which were situated in front of a set of double doors.
"Tenya!" I called back, pivoting in order to speed walk toward him as he stood up.
Without giving me a real chance to avoid it, Iida was quick to swallow me in his arms. I sucked in a breath at that, and as quickly as it had happened, he pulled away to look down at me.
"I'm so glad you're here." He said, smiling brokenly as his voice cracked.
My eyebrows knitted together at the foreign sound. "What happened?"
"I-it's," Iida took a moment to catch his breath before sitting down again. I knelt down in front of him. "My brother... he was attacked by the Hero Killer."
"Ingenium?" I asked, eyes widening as I glanced toward the doors to my left.
Iida nodded solemnly. "Yes... the doctors say.. that his spinal cord was severed... he's paralyzed from the waist down."
I gasped lightly at that and slowly took his hand. He let his head fall to avoid looking at me, and the only thing to fill the quiet hall was the soft sounds of his sobbing. Despite all that has happened between us, I couldn't help but feel terrible for him.
Whether I felt the irritating burn behind my eyes or not didn't matter then, I was too distracted in all that was going on. I was too distracted with the way Iida's mother was looking at me and how she had taken my other hand. I was too distracted by sick feeling in my stomach and everything that was going through my head right then.
"Tenya," I said calmly, prompting him to slowly lift his head. "You've always been there for me, so now it's my turn to be here for you."
