"When the tests for Yuki are finished," Endeavor was saying as he, Todoroki, and I walked down the halls of his agency. "We'll be going out on patrol."
My eyes subtly lit up at his plan, though I stayed silent; as did Todoroki — who walked steadily at my side.
"Aren't these tests unnecessary?" Todoroki asked after another moment of silence. I glanced at him.
"What makes you say that?" Endeavor asked another question, though he didn't turn around.
"Yuki doesn't need to be tested, not by you, at least," he continued bluntly. "You saw what she was capable of at the Sports Festival, you chose her because of it. If there's some ultimatum to your shit plans, then just come out with it already."
At that, Endeavor stopped walking altogether and stood with his back to us. I felt an uneasy sick rise in my gut as I peered from my classmate and up to his father. I knew their relationship wasn't great, but this tension was ridiculous.
"I don't mind them," I said, breaking the suffocating silence. "If he needs further testing —"
"No," Endeavor interrupted me. Still he stayed facing forward. "There is a bigger goal I have for these tests."
I rose an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"I have many... inquiries about your quirk," he continued, finally glancing at me over his shoulder. "Specifically Dream Walker."
I felt my heart sink. "As do most people."
Endeavor hummed gruffly and turned toward us completely with his hands held in fists at his sides. "Tell me, what was that power you displayed in the fight with your blond classmate?"
Bakugou.
"That power," I repeated, holding the intense eye contact with Endeavor. "What of it has you so curious — that has everyone so curious? It's just like any other quirk, though it's nature is just different."
I paused, watching regrettably as my lie sunk into the pro hero's — as well as my classmate's — minds.
"It may not be like your fire," I continued, glancing toward Todoroki momentarily. "Or your ice; but it's nothing extraordinary or mesmerizing. It's a quirk, just like any other."
Endeavor looked on at me with a straight face. He looked so... blank that I wasn't even sure if he heard me. As the seconds ticked on, I couldn't help but pick up the sound of distant chuckling in my ear.
"I see," said Endeavor finally, pulling me back into reality before I could sink into the darkness. "But do all quirks fuse with other users?"
My eyebrows narrowed. "I —"
"Enough of this," Todoroki interrupted, rolling his eyes as I looked to him once more. "You heard what she said. Her quirk is just a quirk; prying about it isn't really going to get you anywhere if there's nothing else to say."
Again, I was baffled by him and the silence coming from his father.
"You didn't know her mother," Endeavor said finally, though it was low and under his breath. "And did you not hear her song?"
"So that was just a set up to get info out of me?" I asked, taken aback at his insensitivity.
"Are you really that surprised?" Todoroki asked me rhetorically.
"My quirk is hard to control," I began, disregarding my classmate. "It's power is immeasurable and there are still many things I don't know about it — that no one knows about it. I can feel its power circulating within my body as we speak. I didn't ask to have it, I don't want it. You may think something like Dream Walker is overwhelming to even exist, but you have no idea the suffering I go through having this damn quirk."
