[m]LAVENDER AND VELVET /
ALINA BARAZWork hours have long since ended, but Suhwa still hasn't left her office despite the clock reading half past midnight. She's used to the heavy workload. A lot of people assume that just because she's editor in chief, that she's close to being on the actual top, she has it the easiest out of all of them. They look at her and see a socialite, a woman who has the privilege of attending the best events in Seoul and gets to meet the most influential people. They hold the fact that she has a say in everything and gets to make final decisions against her. No, she's not completely unaware of the office gossips that go around, and she has given up on thinking of ways to tell them how all of those benefits she has didn't come easy.
She had tasted what it felt like to start from nothing, to be in the bottom as someone who barely mattered. Climbing her way up from being an errand girl, to assistant, to art director, and then personal assistant and right-hand woman of the magazine's previous editor in chief is something she applauds herself for. It's the reason why she's so devoted. Her mother used to tell her that hard work has no limits. The woman taught her that she shouldn't be too content with what she has because things can go south whenever they please, and she could lose everything she had struggled so easily.
Suhwa doesn't want that.
This magazine is her life. She spends her time at the office more than she does at her own home, but that's only because working at home puts her mood off for several reasons. Her phone lights up in the middle of reviewing possible pieces for next month's issues. It's Yoongi, asking if she's going to come home anytime soon. Suhwa doesn't waste a second thinking of a reply. She sends him a quick text saying that she has to stay late to finish some extra work, and there's no need for him to wait up.
A sudden crash from outside has her on alert. As far as she knows, the whole floor is empty because everyone had gone home already except for her. She can't see much with the blinds covering the windows, but she knows that it's dark outside of her office, so there can't be anyone who's still here.
With her heart hammering in her chest she slowly gets up from her seat to peak through the blinds. There's nothing–no one she can make out in the dim lighting. She's watched too many horror movies to know that this is how things usually get ugly but too curious to stay put, knowing that she can't lock herself in her office forever. A burglar would be the least of her worries. It's been a long time since she put her black belt in Taekwondo to good use.
Against her better judgment, Suhwa leaves the room and looks for anything that catches her eye. Spots the door to the lounge slightly open, lights on and everything. She tiptoes, the closer she gets the more she starts to hear noise coming out of the lit room. A soft rustling and humming that somehow makes the hands a non-believer of ghosts like her shake. Taking a deep breath, Suhwa pushes the door open wider slowly, already noticing the shadows of the figure currently in the room. Soon realizes that the noises she heard were in fact noises but not the kind she had thought they were, and somehow, she would prefer an actual burglar instead of this.
Once she has the door open wide enough to get a clear view of what's going on inside, Suhwa immediately regrets ever leaving her office in the first place. Through the small opening she spots Taehyung, hair messy and dress shirt unbuttoned to his chest on top of an obviously half-naked woman laying on the table, feverishly making out and unaware of her presence just outside of the room. Suhwa feels like she's intruding–she is intruding, but she is unable to remove herself from her spot by the door, eyes glued to the intimate moment happening right before her eyes.
Things between Taehyung and the woman (whose name Suhwa can't put her finger on) escalate, the moan that escapes the woman's lips as Taehyung kisses her neck causes her cheeks to heat up. She shouldn't be seeing this, but she finds herself oddly interested in the kind of business her employees do when actual business hours are over.
"If we get caught I'm blaming you," the woman says. Suhwa recognizes her vaguely as someone from the marketing team.
"No one's even here, Minhee. Relax." Taehyung moves from her neck down to her chest, fully removing the blouse from her body and discarding it to the floor. The only thing left now is her skirt. "And even if we do, worst case scenario is we both get fired. And for you, that won't be a problem since you're leaving anyway."
Leaving?
This is definitely news to her, almost bothers her as much as the fact that two of her employees are currently close to fucking inside the lounge. People who work at Serendipity never leave. They know how popular the magazine is, how highly it is regarded globally and to be able to be a part of it for even one week is an opportunity that doesn't come easy. They're smart enough to know that simply being associated with the company is already a big deal. So no, people don't quit here no matter how tough the days get.
Unless they're fired, of course.
"Don't you care about being fired? You just got here." Minhee does Taehyung a favor by taking off his shirt as he works on unbuckling his belt.
"And yet you're already so eager to have my fingers inside you."
This side of Taehyung is so different from the newbie with a good taste in clothing she's seen around the office, but it's not like she had been expecting to catch him close to fucking one of her employees.
"I never said such thing–fuck."
Suhwa jumps at the sight, eyes widening at what's happening inside the room. Live porn, Namjoon would say to her if he's here. She could just step in and break the lewd scene right now, have them where she wants them and let them succumb to their embarrassment. Or she could go home with this valuable piece of information and spend the rest of the night thinking about the best way she could put it to use.
"I fucking hate you," Minhee says through gritted teeth.
"Really? Because I recall how much you loved choking on my dick two nights ago—"
"This is probably the last time we'll ever do this so shut that big mouth of yours or I'm leaving," Minhee snaps. Taehyung actually stops talking and freezes for a moment. If this were any other circumstance, Suhwa would've applauded the girl's sharp tongue and guts.
This situation is all kinds of awkward for all parties involved, but Suhwa feels more amused than anything else, chuckling silently at her two co-workers. It feels nice to be in on a little secret, to have something over someone she can use against no matter how unpleasent it sounds. Sighing, she detaches herself from the door and decides to let them have their fun. She walks back to her office managing to hear the lewd noises starting to intensify, the couple —if Taehyung and Minhee could even qualiy as such—presumably having just gone past foreplay.
Suhwa packs her things up, taking her time in leaving the building knowing that she doesn't have to worry about either Taehyung or Minhee realizing that she's been here all along.
Work's going to be so interesting tomorrow.
