Elle's POV

The rain fell heavily. Not that I didn't like rain, it's just the fact that it makes the winter air colder than it already is that really irks me. I sat patiently on the front porch, watching the fog form in the distance. As my fingers began to numb, I realized it was a little to late to text Lillian and see where she was. She was way late on the ride and I already locked up the warm, toasty house. Lillian was notorious for offering rides and being extremely late, but after years of friendship, I've gotten use to her being.. in dependable. Good thing I was blessed with patience. As I looked up from my frosty hands, the fog covered every angle of my vision and I was suddenly blinded by a bright light.

"CUT IT OUT LIL! ARE YOU TRYING TO BLIND ME?"

I was still temporarily stunned when I realized there was no car there. Just a figure only a few feet away from me, a figure I couldn't make out. It was tall, and skinny in the shadows. Although it was dark and blurry, I could see that the figure was pitch black and looked human beside the fact that there were huge, yellow orbs where human eyes should be.

For some reason, I wasn't scared. Not the slightist ping of fear ran through me as I stared back at the creature.

SCREEEEECH.

Lillian's black Charger exploded into the driveway, breaking me out of my trance.

"What are you waiting for? Get in!"

Drake blasted in my ears as Lillian pulled out of the driveway and on to the slippery roads. It was our first day of Senior year and ofcourse Lillian used it as an excuse to take 3 hours to get ready. I began to block out her continuous chatter as my mind shifted back to the unknown creature I faced earlier. What was it, and what did it want with me? Did it want to hurt of help me?

"Elle... Elle come on!"

I was once again broken away from my deep thought. "God, you're such a weirdo." Lillian smirked and gracefully ducked out of the car. Lillian and I had been bestfriends since 2nd grade, though we couldn't be more opposite. Lillian Todd was the most popular and desirable girl in school. Everyone knew her and everyone wanted to be her. She was 6 feet tall, strawberry blond and ofcourse (stereotypically) captain of the varsity cheer team. Back in elementary school, she was like me: quiet and embarrassingly smart, we were both in the same class and ended up being partnered up at reading time, which worked out well because we were both well over the reading level for our age. And we've been inseparable ever since. Lillian is still the girl I knew back on the playground, when it's just me around, but she hides it well around others.

"Sooo.. You and Collin huh?"

Lillian sent a sly smile my way as she saw my cheeks instantly redden.

Collin Evans was the party animal of our school. A couple of days before school started up again, he threw a "Project X" inspired party that had the whole neighborhood calling the cops. Everyone was undeniably drunk and when the cops showed up, all hell broke loose. 5 people we're arrested within minutes and there were two cops on my tail by the time I was out of the door. My life was flashing before my eyes, then Collin showed up and hid me in his truck with him. Once the commotion died down, I simply thanked him. Someone must have saw me leave his truck, because now the whole student body thinks we hooked up. Including Lillian.

"Shut up you pig!" I laughed, nudging her as I walked past, not even bothering to answer the question.
