Hi everyone! So this is a pretty long chapter! Please let me know what you think :) xo

Luke’s POV

“This is super duper exciting!” Mrs. Collingwood claps her hands together and emits a high pitched squeal. Stacy stands next to her sorority sister of a mother, smiling proudly.

I cross my arms and suppress a groan for Noelle’s sake. Looking at the bunch of idiots that were members of the “carnival team” as Mrs. Collingwood called it, I realize that I was right, and this is definitely going to be a punishment straight from hell.

The only good things so far are that Noelle is happy with me for doing this, and that Mrs. Collingwood is hot.

“I am so so thrilled to see this many of you have volunteered to help out!” continues Mrs. Collingwood.

I snort, earning a sharp elbow to the side from Noelle. I roll my eyes, because I definitely did not volunteer for this. Mrs. Collingwood looks over her clipboard, and then looks back at us.

“The carnival is in just over a week! It begins next Friday at six o’clock p.m. I’ll need you all to be there at five thirty. We’ll have carnival rides. Saturday will be the all day kind of deal, where we’ll have things like the cake walk, carnival games, and the carnival rides. It will begin at ten a.m, so I’ll need you guys there at nine thirty. Any questions?”

I drop my head back and stare up at the sky. It’s sort of cloudy, with bits of the blue sky peeking through in places. Sort of fits my mood, I’d say.

When no one asks any questions, Mrs. Collingwood squeals again. I was going to need to have my ears checked by the end of this.

“Ok then! So I’ve got the list of things ordered, and we’ll set up Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon of next week! I hope you all have a super de duper weekend!”

And with that we were all dismissed. Students headed towards the parking lot, and Noelle walked towards Stacy, a smile covering her pretty face. I don’t know why anyone talking to Stacy would be smiling.

I follow Noelle, and Stacy scowls when I get closer.

“Sophie,” I say, nodding to her.

“It’s Stacy,” she snaps. “I know that you know that Luke!”

She rolls her eyes and I smirk. I reach for Noelle’s arm, my hand wrapping around her wrist. She looks up at me like I’ve startled her or something.

“Come on, Noe, I’ve got to get home,” I say. I don’t really have anything to be home for, I’m just sick of talking to Stacy. And it’s Friday; who wants to hang around school on a Friday?

“No, it’s fine, you go. Michael’s going to take me home,” she mumbles.

“I – what?”

“Mike’s driving me home, Luke,” she repeats, a bit more firm this time. I bite my lip and look away for a second, trying not to let her see how much it bothers me.

“Whatever,” I say, turning to walk away from her.

I know there’s no reason for me to feel like this, so why do I? It’s perfectly normal for her boyfriend to drive her home. It’s perfectly normal for me not to always have to drive her. But there’s something inside of me that won’t let me be okay with it, some force that keeps nagging away at the wall holding back my emotions.

As I cross the parking lot I see Calum and Ashton talking to Michael, all three of them leaning against his stupid Camaro. Cal and Ash wave, and I just nod my head in return. If Michael is over there, then I’m not going to be over there.
