Zayn's Point Of View
I shifted in my chair and ran my fingers through my hair.
This chair is so bloody uncomfortable.
The doctor and nurses have been in Jade's room for an hour and they still won't let me in. Soon after we entered the room, they kicked me out. The doctor was called and they let him in. But not me.
They also called her parents. They came rushing in with tear stained cheeks, and into her room. Right before then, they glanced at me. A look of thankfulness was in their eyes and I looked away. If only I knew sooner that Jade would stop breathing maybe I could have prevented this. I feel so incredibly guilty.
Is she going to be okay? No Zayn, don't think that. Of course she's going to be okay; she is the toughest person I know.
I rested my elbows on my knees and put my face in my hands.
Deep breaths.
One. She's going to be okay.
Two. You'll be able to see her soon.
Three. Everything will be like it was before this happened.
I sighed. When will the doctors and nurses let me see her? When will her parents come out?
Why did Jade stop breathing? Wasn't she getting better? Didn't a nurse say that a few days ago?
I sighed again and leaned back in my chair. I grabbed my phone out of my front pocket and dialed Liam's number. My phone started to ring.
"Hello?" A groggy voice said.
"Hey Li, it's Zayn."
"Oh, hey. What's up? Why are you even up this early in the morning?" He asked.
"Aren't you usually up at this time?" I laughed.
"I normally get up in about," Liam said, "fifteen more minutes."
"Oh wow." I smiled.
"Yeah," Liam laughed, "so what's up?"
"I wen to visit Jade. She's, well, not well at all. She stopped breathing." I sighed.
"O-Oh my god, are you okay? Is she okay?"
"I'm okay, for the most part. I don't know if she'll be okay though." I said honestly. I pushed back my burning tears.
"I'm so sorry, mate." Liam said sadly.
"It's not your fault." I said. I leaned back more in my chair.
"Have you seen her?" He asked.
"They won't let me in." I said angrily.
"Don't worry, I bet they'll tell you soon." Liam told me.
"You think?"
"I know."
I smiled. "I'm sorry again for waking you up."
"No problem, I should probably get up and out of bed so I won't fall back asleep." Liam laughed.
"Well I'll let you get ready." I said.
"Okay, I'll talk to you later." Liam replied. We exchanged our goodbyes and I hung up. I glanced back into Jade's window and saw the doctor talking to her parents and the nurses crowded around Jade. My heart started to beat faster when I saw Jade appear from the cluster of nurses.
She had more wires placed in her arms and she looked even more pale. Her jacket was taken off and her long arms and body looked so fragile, so thin. Jade must not weigh very much. My breath hitched in my throat and I pushed the tears back. I saw Jade's dad look at me, then back at the doctor. They exchanged more words and then Jade's parents left her room.
They walked towards me and I could see that their faces were blotchy and their eyes were bloodshot from all the crying. I imagine that I look the same.
"Are you the boy who alerted the nurses?" Jade's mum asked.
"Yes." I told them. Jade's mum let out a sob and clung to her husband.
"And are you the one who's paying the bills as well?" Her dad asked. I nodded.
"T-Thank you so much." Her dad cried. They both rushed off and I was left alone, still sitting in the chair.
"You can come in now, if you like." The doctor said, peeping out of the room. I quickly stood up and bolted into Jade's room.
