The silence inside the plane was thick. Xavier hadn't uttered a word since he arrived and seemed less then thrilled about the photographers that were scattered inside and outside of the airport. The furious look on his face and the way he continued to look down at his phone made it more than obvious that he had figured out who had tipped them off. ''Jeju Island?," he finally questioned. I turned away and grabbed the champagne that the flight attendant had given us. "It was the only place that I was certain you hadn't taken a fling to,'' I drank the champagne and finally made eye contact.'' , and the Island itself is very beautiful.'' He nodded and returned to his phone. I tried my best to ignore the cold and blank looks he would throw my way but it had been three hours since we had departure and that's all he had done. I pulled my laptop out of my bag in the seat next to me and bought the small pillow by it on to my lap. Sitting back I opened the laptop and checked my emails responding to a few. I looked at my watch only to see that not even an hour had passed. I laid back feeling to tiered to move to the bed. I read over my last emails only sending out short responses when it was urgent and saving the rest for later. I could feel my eyes getting heavier until I was unable to even open them. I drift in and out of sleep conscious of my surrounding but relaxed in my seat. When I finally opened my eyes ready to fully wake up I was meet by steady brown eyes watching my every move. I blink and instantly felt how irradiated my eyes had become. I payed not attention to Xavier and instead moved to remove my brown eye contacts . I blink the irritation away and instantly found what had been bothering me since we had taken off ,a small eyelash had made it into my left eye contact. I finally looked back at Xavier only to be taken aback by the surprised expression on his face. His eyes were round and open like a child who had just witnessed something magical. His mouth was slightly agape and he made no effort to close it. I waved my hands in front of his face but he simply continued to look into my eyes. I shook my head and finally covered my eyes when I realized why he had been so dumbstruck. I quickly looked down and refused to look up when he made an effort to get my attention I picked up my sunglasses that I had discarded and quickly put them on. ''Your eyes..'' I finally looked up feeling better to have the sunglasses on. ''What about them?,'' I kept my voice steady silently hoping that he would drop the subject. He didn't and instead reached over to my side grabbing the tissue I had placed my contacts in. He studied them for a long time leaving us in a tense silence ''Your eyes are so beautiful......why do you wear brown eye contacts?,'' I shrugged not wanting to explain. I looked out of the window trying to ignore his intense stare. I hardly ever felt intimated by anyone but I could practically feel him staring at my face. I sighed and finally straighten up facing him I took of the sunglasses and stared directly into his eyes , he once again did a double take and didn't bother masking his curiosity. We're going to be together for the next two almost three years might as well just get it over with I thought, plus this way I don't have to consistently wear colored contacts when we spend time alone. ''My eyes are essentially what I treasure the most about myself,'' He looked confused and I bit my lip trying to find a better way to explain myself. I cocked my head slightly wondering if I should give a deeper explanation or keep it vague. Fuck it I thought there' no way I can beat around the bush. '' My eyes are my last connection to my father and that makes them precious to me.'' He motioned for me to continue, it was well known that my father had passed away when I was young so that in itself didn't confuse him, and he clearly wanted me to just tell him my reasoning behind the contacts. '' In a sort of selfish manner I want to keep them to myself. Only a handful of people have seen them and those who have are people who I care deeply about and trust.''He nodded in understanding but still looked confused.''They're also a distraction in my daily life.'' He looked surprised by I could also see that he understated what I meant. The thing was that he didn't understand just how distracting they could be. In my previous profession I was used as a lure to catch men and women with my eyes. Something that I valued became my deadliest weapon against those who I was after. ''How many people have seen your actual eye color?.'' I almost slipped up and added those that no longer counted due to their life status. '' maybe around five people?,'' It sounded more like a question. I wasn't sure about adding those that had helped in bring me into this world. '' So now I guess six people have seen them including me,'' I nodded feeling very uncomfortable under his gaze , he continued to stare at me and I silently prayed that this 18 hour flight would magically come to an end. When I couldn't take it anymore I stood up knocking my laptop out of my lap. I quickly caught it , I looked up and found Xavier's face a few centimeters away from my own. He had pushed himself off his chair to catch my laptop as well.We were both slightly bent over making us the same height. I straighten back up feeling even more uncomfortable. '' I think i'll go sleep for a bit to kill a few hours ,'' I flinched at my own choice of words thinking back to the number of people that had seen my eyes. Xavier stood up fully towering over me before sitting down. Not once did his gaze leave. He nodded and I walked straight to the small bedroom. I just need to sleep I thought a nap will definitely easy my tense feelings.
