"You should give it up, kid."
This phrase echoed in Izuku's head, making his heart crack. Nothing changed, everything still stayed as dull and heart wrenching as always. Bakugo was saved by All Might, his schoolmates still outcasted him and called him names, nothing changed. At least, that's what he thought.
Izuku had realized, about a day after this happened, that maybe All Might was right. His words bit right through his skin and ate him from the inside out.
"Mom, I'm headed off to school," Izuku called dispassionately to his mother. Inko put the washed dishes away and rubbed her wet hands against her apron, looking up at his son with worried eyes.
"Aren't you going to eat first?" She questioned, starting to walk toward her son. Izuku shook his head and started to slip on his shoes, giving them a little tap before going to the front door and opening it.
"No thanks. I'm not hungry," Izuku said, leaving the doorframe with a small (and fake) smile on his face, waving goodbye to his mother. "I'll see you later."
"See you later." His mother called, looking at the door sadly as it closed with a thump and hearing the twist of a key lock it shut.
Izuku arrived at school as quickly as possible. He didn't bother to pay attention to his surroundings, so he didn't. Taking off his shoes and replacing them with the indoor ones, his classic trademark red shoes being thrown into his shoe locker, he walked down the hall to his class.
School continued as usual with the same boring lectures and assignments. The same boring insults from the other students, slurs and other insults falling deaf on his ears. It was painfully hard to pay attention to what the teacher was saying with his dreadfully monotone voice.
After class, Izuku zoomed past all of the other students as quickly as possible to avoid conflict, making his way into the Teacher's Office.
"Excuse me?" Izuku called out to the only teacher in the room there. "My name is Midoriya Izuku, I have something to tell you, sir."
"Yes? What is it that you need to tell?" The teacher asked with a smile on his face. The corners of his mouth were too high and the emotion and his eyes were blank.
"He's obviously faking that damned smile," Izuku thought but continued the conversation.
"I would like for you to get rid of my application for UA." He said bluntly. The teacher blinked and chuckled a little.
"You want to get rid of it? How come?"
"It's just...It's not realistic, I guess. I have another dream that I want to pursue" Izuku lied.
"Alright, I'll get rid of it. Now off you go, I'll have to send this over to the principal to accept it." The teacher said. Izuku nodded and left, walking slowly. His heart squeezed at abandoning his dream, but he had to do it. It was for the best.
"Jeez, took him forever to realize that," The teacher muttered as Izuku was leaving. He stopped in his tracks and let out a shaky breath, biting his lip and hoping he heard that wrong.
He could feel his heart crack, on the verge of shattering into tiny little pieces. It was true, that wasn't fake. For once, somebody wasn't fake anymore.
"It'll be fine," Izuku told himself, trying to convince what was left of his sanity, "This is for the best."
Izuku went over to the back of the school to eat lunch like he always did. It has the least amount of social interaction, which meant no bullying. His favorite.
But then he encountered him, the blonde-haired red-eyed delinquent strutting over to him, acting like the world was his.
Bakugo Katsuki, his so-called "childhood friend".
