She sat at the bus stop holding on to the cold hand of the child's hand. He reminded her so much of his father. Leijla looked at Leon and smiled. She was always reminded of Toni when she looked at him, but there was a point that she did not care. She hated that they had divorced 5 years before but he apparently didn't love her anymore. They waiting for the bus sitting in the cold under the roofed part because of the rain.
The bus was running late and she looked down at her phone and noticed that the bus had been cancelled due to such wretched conditions. She looked around. There was no way that she could catch a bus that even got relatively close to their house and a taxi would not go out that far. They were left to walk in the rain. She didn't want to get sick so she decided to go to a coffee shop to warm up for a little bit and make sure that Leon would not get sick.
As they went to walk in the door of the shop, someone walked out hitting her in the head with the door during the process. The person didn't seem to realise until Leon started yelling.
"You hurt my mama. Apologise." Leon stated in the mans direction. The man turned around and realised what he just did running back over to apologise.
"I am sorr- Leijla?" The man said looking at the woman who was sitting on the ground.
"Toni." She said looking up at the man who sat stood there reaching a hand out to help her up.
"I see you and him are doing well." Toni said as he helped her up and pointed at Leon. He had a weird tone to his voice when he mentioned Leon.
"I don't see why you have to treat your son that way. I mean you are the only person that I was ever intimate with so how could he be someone else son?" Leijla said grabbing ahold of their son's hand.
"Can we talk over coffee? I need to talk to you." Toni said looking at the woman standing in front of him.
"I guess. But you have to be respectful." She replied opening the door and walking into the coffee shop. Toni followed behind watching as Leon sat next to his mother while she ordered him a small hot chocolate and got herself just a regular cup of coffee.
"I never sent in the divorce papers." Toni said quickly watching her eyes widen.
"You mean, we are legally still married?" She looked at him with a look of anger.
"I couldn't send them in. I still love you. I know that I never spoke to you but I was still connected to you. You just didn't know." Toni said putting his head down shamefully.
"You could have contacted me. It would have been better to tell me then. Not 5 years later." She complained taking a small sip of her coffee before letting out an angry huff.
Leijla looked across the table before glancing back a her son. She looked back at Toni and gave him a small smile. "I still loved you too. Just you accused me of cheating on you. You said that Leon was someone else's son and that hurt me. I would never have cheated on you. If you notice now, Leon looks almost identical to you. You would have lived knowing that you loved me but let me go because I 'cheated' but we would have still been married."
"I'm sorry Leijla. I just... I was told that I wasn't able to have kids. So my mind instantly thought..." Toni let a few tears out.
"How come you never told me this before?" Leijla asked reaching across the table and grabbing a hold of his hands.
"I wanted you to love me and you always said that you wanted a big family so I never told you because I wanted you to have hope." Toni looked up making Leijla look away from his blue eyes. They always broke her and made her cry if he was crying.
"Who is this mama?" Leon finally spoke after staring at Toni the whole time that they were there.
"This Leon, is your father." Leijla looked at the young boy sitting there who quickly fell under the table crawling to get under before hugging Toni.
Both of the adults smiled looking at each other and then back at Leon who babbled on to his father about something neither of them could understand but he was happy so neither complained. They were just a happy family again.
