Azalea
The council did not take the news very well.
"This is an outrage! You two girls know better than to be exposing yourself to werewolves!" Camryn's mom Ronah yelled at us. "This could mean war!" She finished
"Oh relax Ronah! It's not the girls fault. Those damn wolves are the blame! Not giving our girls a chance but trying to force them into mates. And they say the moon goddess is in control of it! As if!" Another council member Hazel said.
Hazel was the oldest member in the community. She had very strict views but loved us all like her grandchildren.
"Well ladies we have to go meet them. Bitching around won't solve anything." My mom said.
"I hate we have to go and explain our side. Those wolves never listen. They just do as they please." Ronah said
"Oh come on, it makes it fair. Everyone hears a side and can make their own decisions. Now shut up and act like an adult!" My mom said.
Sometimes my mom was a badass leader.
-----------------
An hour later we stood out in a clearing. I'd never actually been here before. It was right in the middle between our land and theirs so everything was fair.A few moments later out walked the wolves.
My heart skipped a beat seeing Thomas. I wanted to run up and kiss him, but knew Rohan would probably kills me if I did. As well as a few other members.
As Hazel was the oldest it was her job to help the oldest wolf leader tell the story. A man who reminded my significantly of Thomas, but much much older stepped up. I guess he was the wolf rep.
"Our people, have always inhabited this land." Wolf guy started. His voice was deep, but soft. It felt like magic was settling over us.
"137 years ago Rosalie Whitmare came to our alpha Ezekiel Styx. She was asking for a safe haven, a place were her coven could live without fear of the witch hunts."
"Our alpha agreed. If the witch would agree to let him meet all the girls to see if one of them was his mate."
"Of course her council did not think it would be right to mate with them, for they had ran across a vicious group before settling here. They only chose this town because there were few mortals. So while they didn't trust the wolves it was necessary" Hazel started.
"Rosalie devised a plan. She had to make sure her coven had a safe place to live. She decided to use a spell to make Ezekiel fall in love with her. Thinking she made him think he mated with her."
"Ezekiel agreed to give them permission to live on the land. Rosalie kept up the love act for about 3 months then stopped. Only her plan back fired for he had mated with her."
"Up finding Rosalie rejected him. Knowing that her coven thought wolves were abominations, thinking no way the moon goddess could ever produce such creatures."
"Ezekiel fell into depression. He didn't want to lead the pack anymore. He killed himself."
Well all stopped and soaked in what was being said.
"The pack uproared. They wanted blood for the blood they lost. That's when the war started."
"6 months war went on. Wolves and witches alike were dying left and right. Neither wanted to leave the land. The wolves had been here as long as they could remember, but the witches felt a special pull and source of magic with the land as well."
"Wilma Styx, Ezekiel's sister had resumed place as alpha. She noticed no one was winning the war and she was loosing too many pack members. Thats when she called a meeting with Rosalie."
"They drew up a peace treaty. Witches and wolves would keep living on their sides of the land. Neither would tell the humans about the other, or about themselves; keeping the magic on the downlow. Witches and wolves would also not mate. Since mating is not controllable, witches would hide their existence from the wolves. Wolves would only be told when they came of age on a need to know basis."
Hazel and the other man finished telling the story. It was one I'd heard many times before, but hearing both sides gave me a weird feeling. For once i was questioning why this was thing. Why because it happened so many years ago and only once.
Thomas looked lost and confused.
"So what happens now?" Patrick asked
"Well our girls certainly won't be mating with you" Ronah said
"And our boys won't be rejected by your girls, again" another man who looked like Thomas, but was older yet not as old as the story teller said.
"Why don't you let the girls choose?" My grandma said. She was a quiet old woman who hardly spoke. When she did speak the council listened. She ran the coven for many years until it was my moms turn. What she says generally goes.
"Over my dead body!" Ronah said. "We can't mate with them. They're a disgusting race!" She continued
"You better watch your mouth witch!" A wolf said.
"I outta turn you into the dog you are!" One of the council members shouted.
My head was spinning. People started shouting and yelling. Someone threw a spell and a couple wolves transformed.
"ENOUGH!" My grandma and the younger older Thomas guy said at the same time.
"We do not need another war! We are not our ancestors. I think it is time we stop this fighting. Let the girls choose."
"Never. Camryn can choose whoever she wants as long as they're witch or human." Ronah said grabbing Camryn and walking away
Camryn looked confused as her mom pulled her away. I saw her look at Patrick. I wished I could read her mind.
"Azalea, you may choose" mom said coming to me and hugging me. "I do not believe the moon goddess would create any abominations. Maybe you and Thomas can change fate." She said kissing my forehead.
"What do you say Quinton? Can your sons choose?" Grandma asked the old old Thomas looking guy.
Quinton talked with a few other members then turned back to us.
"Yes. They may choose. But only Patrick and Thomas. The others must remain a secrete from wolves. This should be a trial run to see if history has changed or will repeat itself. You need to talk to the fiesty member though. I can't promise what will happen if the other girl rejects Patrick."
With that the wolves turned and left.
