Oswald thought at four in the morning in his own house everything would be quiet and serene enough for him to just think about everything happening at hand, but as soon as the door opened he realized that getting any kind of calm in Gotham city was an absurd pipe dream.
"So I heard your crush turned murderer is moving in and he's lost his memory, is that true?" Zsasz said calmly, placing a severed human hand on the counter.
"How about a knock or a hello next time?" Oswald muttered, staring at the bloodied, mutilated hand. "... Who's is that?"
"Doesn't matter," Zsasz mumbled, turning to face Oswald, raising an eyebrow, "you didn't answer me."
Oswald narrowed his eyes. "He lost his memory from being frozen, doesn't remember anything that happened in the past two years. Jim wanted me to keep him here, so I am."
Zsasz's face twisted into a half smile, dropping an eyebrow. "And you do whatever Jim says because...?"
"Because I owe it to Edward, okay?! It has nothing to do with Jim Gordon, I don't want Ed to... Get hurt." Oswald hissed, slightly embarrassed. "And please put that thing," he gestured to the severed hand," somewhere else. It's bleeding on my countertops."
Zsasz rolled his eyes, picking up the hand and throwing it in the nearest trash can, using a paper towel to wipe up the blood. "So Ed's... just going to be here indefinitely, and you don't know when or if it's coming back? And you're just lying to him and acting like everything's okay, now that he's lost his memory?"
"... Yes." Oswald mumbled uneasily, hating the fact he was doing this, and hating the fact he hated that he was doing this.
"I mean, you guys were a thing, right? Before he went completely psycho?" Zsasz asked, and Oswald couldn't tell if he was looking for a reaction or not.
"No... We never were, he's straight, he never loved me, why would you think that?"
Zsasz frowned. "When you became mayor, and you were showing him around on your arm everywhere you went, we all kinda thought that... You know... And then the party? Do you seriously not know what I'm taking about? And he's straight? You know he wears a bright green suit and crashes musicals to critique the actors before stabbing them, right? How straight does that sound to you?"
Oswald bit his lip. "No, and I have no opinion."
"When you were crying because you thought Butch strangled him and you were holding him in your arms on live television, and rumors spread very fast in Gotham as you know," Zsasz smirked, "I thought it was quite obvious."
Oswald clenched his fist. "What was obvious?!"
"You should've seen some of the news articles after that night, some outlets were a little, I guess, suspicious, and most of my fellow assassins all thought you two were dating, including me. And then he killed you, so everyone was a bit surprised-"
"E-everyone?!" Oswald hissed, angry to see Zsasz smirking.
"I'm pretty sure it was only him and you who didn't know the crime family thought you two were a thing but it became pretty evident later that he hated you and wanted your head on a silver platter. You two would've made a cute couple though, shame he dumped your dead body into a river."
"I would threaten you, but even though you work for me, you still frighten me." Oswald admitted, sighing.
"Glad you're taking proper precautions. And don't worry, I'll treat Edward like a stranger and I'll act like I know nothing of your history. Out of respect to you." Zsasz muttered.
