It was pitch-black, I couldn’t see a thing. I felt myself standing, barefoot in a cold marbled floor. Okay, what am I doing here? Suddenly a ray of light ricochet everywhere. I squint up to see where it came from when suddenly a woman came face to face with me. Oh crap, my heart. Frozen, I examined the woman’s face. She has brown wavy hair and hazelnut colored eyes.

Tears fell from her eyes and she seemed mad. Who is she? I was about to speak but my voice was betraying me. I tried it again but it seemed it’s not just my voice, my mouth won’t open too. A smile slowly run from the woman’s lips.

“You can’t speak, am I right?” She said.

I nodded. How come she knows? Was she the one behind this?

“I’m impressed. But no matter how hard you try, you’ll never be as good as you wanted to be. You are nothing but evil.”

No. I’m not like that. I’ve been good. Who are you? What did I do to you?

“What you did to me? It wasn’t me dear. My son, you killed my son!” Her hoarse voice echoed everywhere as she burst into tears.

What was she talking about? Who was his son? The woman hold me by the hand tightly. I flinch, but it seems she’ll never let go. The woman lean closer and whispered to my ear.

“You’ll never find peace. Forever be hated by the one you love.” Her voice was echoing inside my head until everything started spinning and turned to black.

“You’ll never find peace, forever be hated by the one you love.” I woke up with myself mumbling those words.

Wait, what? You’ll never find peace? Forever be hated by the one you love? Where on earth did I get that? I sat up and found myself in a room. A room, how did I get here? I motioned to stand up when suddenly flashes of events came across my mind. I felt the sharp pain again.

Oh crap. I remembered the mansion, the woman, and Kernel flapping his wings like a flying corn. I saw another bed next to mine. It was empty, but judging by the sheets it looked like someone slept there and went out. I think I need some air. As I went out from the room, I saw the one person that made me appreciate my decision to go outside.

Kernel was sitting in the dining table, nursing something in a cup.

“Kernel?” I called.

He flashed a smile as soon as he saw me. Did he just? Wait, let me hold my heart for a sec to take a deep breath. Okay. Nope, not going to squeal, you’re not going to do it Tasha. Everyone’s asleep. Act cool Atasha, this may be the first time you see him smiled but you need to calm down. I’m cool… I’m cool…

Damn it! My heart’s racing so fast and I could feel my cheeks burning. I slowly sat to one of the chairs opposite to him and cleared my throat.

“So, what makes you stay up at this hour?”

“Can’t sleep. I thought a cup of milk would help.” Oh, so he’s drinking milk. I giggled by the thought, he looked like a kid, such a cutie.

I don’t know but why do I feel like this is not the Kernel I’ve known? I quietly stared at him, but his attention were fixed to his hand- I mean, the ring that he was holding.

A ring? OMG! Okay, calm down again Tasha. Keep cool, okay? Oh God, is he going to propose?  Did he finally figured it out that I’m worth to be his wife? Don’t worry Kernel, I’ll never say no.

“Tasha.”

“Yes! Absolutely yes!” I instantly replied.

Kernel was taken back and stared at me. Oh crap, I lost my coolness. I quickly cleared my throat.
