"Still seems out of tune"

"Shit, you're right"

David hastily tuned the guitar once more. "What about now?", he asks as he plays the Rebel Rebel intro on a dusty barely used acoustic. I mutter some kind of unenthusiastic response as I throw myself back on the hotel bed. I hate days like this. All the cameras and the talking and the publicity. Not really my thing, yet David took it in his stride.

He carefully puts the guitar back on the rack next to the other acoustics that he's been tuning since we came back to the room, "what's on your mind, love?". He lays down next to me and I turn my head to look at him and his freshly cut hair. He put on weight and he's happier recently, which makes me happy.

"I know you hate these things, but we're nearly finished now and I have a suprise for us later" he said with a smile. He always reassures me somehow. He would be able to convince me to run butt naked down a busy street in the middle of winter and I'd do it without question. I put it down to his eyes and his soothing  voice.

"You know how I feel 'bout these publicity shoots, Dave". I let out a sigh and sit back up. I start picking at my ripped jeans when there's a knock on the door. Myself and David look at eachother, neither of us have any intention of moving but when the knock comes once more David gets up and I lay back down.

"Hiya folks", Stuart walks briskly into the room and David shuts the door behind him. I've always had a soft spot for this particular bodyguard. He's gotten us out of quite a few busy hotel lobbies by a back entrance and saved us a lifetime of embarrassing photos taken the 'morning after'. Today was just another day that called for his help.

David shuffled around the tank of a man. "Whats it look like? Have you found a way?" He slumped down in the chair beside the closet and started eating one of the apples from the bowl. "I think I found a way around the paparazzi, but it does involve stairs. That okay lads?"

"Fine by me. You okay with it?", David looked at me for a response. I sat up and gave a little smile and nodded. I'd take anything to get out of this stuffy hotel room and the screaming fans outside the hotel with the crudely drawn red lightning bolts down their faces. Stuart stood up, threw his apple into the bin and gripped the door handle, "ready?"

David took my hand and we exchanged smiles, "Ready as we'll ever be"
