"No don't open the door keep climbing". My legs were getting tired now and I was beyond frozen but I closed the landing door and kept going.
"How far up are we heading, Dave?"
"To the roof and don't ask why, just keep going".
"This surprise better be worth the cold I'm gonna have tomorrow". After another two or three minutes I finally reached the roof and clambered on top. David followed and helped me stand up and when I turned around I was mesmerized. There were more pillows than I could count in a hundred different colors along with blankets in the center of the roof. Surrounding the pile were candles and fairy lights.
"Well? Was it worth it?" He stood behind me and put his hands on my waist. "I'm going to take your silence and that look on your face as a yes". He walked around to face me and took both of my hands and lead me to the mound of pillows and blankets. We both sat down and and he immediately put a maroon blanket around my shoulders even though I had forgotten how cold I was at this point.
"Babe, this is gorgeous! How did you manage this?".
"That's for me to know and for you to not find out". He smiled and pulled out a bottle of champagne from behind a pillow. He poured two glasses and leaned back onto some golden pillows. As I looked at him I couldn't help but think that these really are our golden years. We sat in silence just enjoying each others company and never taking our eyes off one another. We lay down and admired the stars and spoke of times gone by. We laughed, giggled and occasionally cried.
Moments like these made me realize that I didn't marry David Bowie, I married David Jones.
