Her limp body lay in your arms. You want to scream, to cry, to be angry, but nothing would help. Every little decision that you have made, every little moment that you didn't take with her wasn't aiding your burnt brain.
Your heartbeat rings throughout your whole body, ruling all of your senses. If Rick and the others didn't make it back soon, you knew that you two wouldn't make it through the night, not with this sitting fresh in your mind. Carl comes over and kneels down by your side before sitting down with you. Tears are clouding your vision and the shock has you doing nothing more than staring at your sister's corpse.
You look around her face, hoping that she would miraculously pop up and start laughing at your pathetic state. Nothing happens, despite your praying. Her eyes start to glaze over as you feel her skin to only be frightened that it has become ice cold. Not only has her appearance changed, but also the feeling in the room. Its empty now, like something has just ripped that comfort right out of it.
A gasp is heard from Carl, who's attention has been ripped from Jessica and over to the front door. You don't care to look, not since it is a Walker anyways. You start to think that maybe the Walker would just eat you, take you from this life. Maybe it would have mercy on you. Or Maybe not.
An arm wraps around your shoulders and a hushed yelling sound comes from around the room. Tears obstruct your vision, making hard for you to see who, or what, it is. It is shaking you, rocking your body back and forth. A Walker couldn't have enough strength to do this, not even a fresh Walker.
The sounds of yelling become more apparent and the rocking eventually becomes violent thrashing. Tears drop from your eyes, and you see Rick looking at you, screaming your name. You start to cry even harder and fall into his chest. He hugs you tighter than he ever has, more than he probably ever will.
"What happened?" He asks.
You open your mouth, but everything gets locked up by the elephant riding on your chest. Not even a croak is heard from you, not a sound is made. All that you are able to do is breathe, which that in itself is a miracle. Rick nestles his head into your hair as you begin to cry again.
***
Morning light starts to beat the darkness. Rick has made sure that you were never alone for the past 8 hours, hopefully you won't have to be taken care of for the rest of the trip. Or until you finally think of a solution to this.
"Are you alright?" Rick asks, coming in the room.
You look at him and look down, nothing needs to be said. Nothing could even possibly come close to summing up the situation, let alone if everything is alright. Your sister just got killed, you will never be able to really, fully, comprehend that night.
"Right. Well, we are leaving in a few days. Jessica needs to be burried with you watching." Rick looks at you with his head tilted. Out of the corner of your eye you can see something move over by the window. The melted flesh and wispy hair leans on the glass and growls.
Rick looks over at the window and then back at you. Glancing up, you start to tear up. Those people belonged to other families. Other people had to witness someone other's death, someone they loved. They had to make that decision to put them down. To give the world one less Walker.
You're just disapointed that you didn't make that choice.
