Chapter One: Stressful Sister
McKinley's POV
My alarm clock began blaring at 6:30. I rolled over and hit the "SNOOZE" button as quickly as I could. Just as I was drifting off to sleep I realized that it was the first day of senior year and that I need to get my lazy a$$ out of bed and get with the program.
I walked to the bathroom and much to my surprise my little sister Caroline was already in there, but she was digging through MY makeup!
"Caroline! What do you think you're doing?" I snapped at her.
"Nothing, McKinley!" She responded quickly.
"WELL OBVIOUSLY YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING! GET OUT OF MY MAKEUP OR I'LL TELL MOM!" I screamed.
My sister looked quite frightened, and she ran out of the bathroom crying. Suddenly I felt really bad about what I had just done. I had forgotten it was Caroline's first day of high school, and she was very nervous. She had nightmares all throughout the summer about getting lost at school on the first day and not having any friends in her lunch period. I told her that she would be fine and not to worry. Which she shouldn't be worried. High school isn't a big deal at all. It's basically the same thing as middle school, but instead eighteen year olds attend.
So I wet my head under the sink and put moose in it. My hair is naturally curly so I just put moose in it while it's wet, dry it, and then go out the door. I then put on my makeup and created a smoky eye to bring out my big blue eyes. I then went to my room and put on a pretty aqua dress that I bought at Dress-Up Boutique in Woodstock with a pink and yellow necklace. I then put
on some sandals and perfume, and the headed back to the bathroom to dry my hair. After I dried my hair I started thinking about how it was going to be my last year in a public school. My last year to live at home, to go to prom, to go on dates...
I stopped thinking about the whole dating part and headed downstairs. But before that I grabbed my phone, and I realized that I had gotten fourteen text messages! One was from Caroline saying "sorry if i upset you this morning sissy." Four were from my best friend, Lauren Owens, saying how excited she was about being a senior and all this mushy gushy junk. Another one was from my cousin Gavin wishing Caroline and I good luck today. Seven were from my mom telling me to get up out of the bed and the other one was from my best guy friend, Alex James, who I secretly had a HUGE crush on for the past four years.
After I texted them all back I grabbed a granola bar from the pantry and my car keys and started to head out the door. After all, it was 7:45 and school started at 8:30. But, before I could escape, my dad grabbed my backpack and said,
"Wait here young lady."
With a confused look, I asked my overprotective father, "What for, daddy?"
"For your sister, of course. Now that you're both in high school you are going to drive her. Understood McKinley Anna Williams?"
I was NOT aware of this situation. My white four-door Jeep Wrangler only had five seats...and four of them were already taken! I had the drivers seat, Lauren, Alex, and Kylie Evans (my other best friend) were all passengers. My Jeep would be practically full! There was no way I was taking my stupid freshman sister to school,
uh-uh.
"Daddy I don't think you get it...there's no room for Caroline in the Jeep! I promised Lauren, Kylie, and Alex it would just be us riding...."
"MCKINLEY ANNA YOU WILL TAKR YOUR SISTER TO SCHOOL NO IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S. HAVE I MADE MYSELF CLEAR?" Screamed my annoying dad.
"Fine. I'll take her. But if she but's in to any of her conversations she's walking!"
That comment infuriated my dad. He yelled, "IF CAROLINE TELLS ME
IF SHE WALKED TO SCHOOL ON HER FIRST DAY YOU WILL BE GROUNDED FOR THE REST OF SENIOR YEAR. PERIOD."
After that mess I tried walking out the door again. I was supposed to pick up Lauren and Kylie at 8:00, and it was 7:59! Unfortunately, my mom grabbed my backpack and yanked me backwards. In fact she almost made me trip! But anyways she was dragging Caroline toward me. Caroline looked very pretty today...but then again she always looked pretty in my opinion.
She's the "pretty sister." She has long blonde hair, tan skin, blue eyes, and she is practically skin and bone. Me, on the other hand, I am six feet tall and have long black hair. I'm sort of tan but not really. I have blue eyes. I used to be extremely overweight, but I have lost thirty pounds since freshman year so I have slimmed up tremendously.
"McKinley honey come here! I want to take a picture of you two girls together! You two have very important years coming up!" Said my energetic mom.
I rolled my eyes, knowing that my mother was about to take 5,000 pictures of Caroline and I. We were already late on picking up Lauren and Kylie!
"Say cheese!" Said my mom a little too excitedly.
Defiantly, I frowned, but then smiled again. My mom rolled her eyes and said to me,
"Get the hell out of the house. All you like to do is start crap, don't you McKinley?"
I rolled my eyes and walked outside. I ran down the front porch steps and got into my Jeep as quickly as I could and drove off, leaving Caroline behind at me.
As I was leaving the cul-de-sac, my dad ran out the front door and screamed,
"MCKINLEY! GET YOUR A$$ BACK HERE SO YOU CAN DRIVE YOUR SISTER!"
I rolled down my windows, and flicked my dad off, without even looking back in the rearview mirror.
