Sorry for not updating in so long! I've been busy and all that, especially with Halloween and I, still am. I blame school and my dear boyfriend bothering me and demanding I watch movies with him at his house. To give this book some needed attention ill be addressing the history and background of the book and some of the characters!
History
Around the present year (2017-2018), shifters were not commonly found. Humans still controlled much of the world, and were-shifters were still myths. In this time, shifters lived deep in forests and were more commonly found in Canada and Russia due to how big the continents are, it was much harder to find were-shifters. Shifters, depending on what area they lived in, had different animals. The wolves in Russia (werewolves or lycanthropes) had much thicker and fluffier coats and could go longer without food. They can also live in colder climates than their counterparts in the United States and Canada. Canadian shifters vary. They depend on the wildlife that lives there (and I'm not too sure about that because I'm from the US)
There ARE packs from the US, but they mostly live in either the desert or densely forested areas such as the forests in Connecticut. Basically where humans are normally not found. Animals in the desert are smaller and can stand higher temperatures and can go without water for longer. They get their water from cacti and usually grow their own cacti in their homes for water (what I'm assuming they would do) or just live near an oasis in the desert.
In the present year in the book, its WAY later than 2017. I'm assuming around like 3000. For were-shifters to take so much of the world this would most likely happen:
A group of shifters would mass together big enough to have their own armies and catch the attention of the US and other nations. For land, they would go to war but they would not rename their land unless they are making their own towns (Like Mapleshade). Eventually over the course of a decade or three (since were-shifters normally probably when they find their mates they have cubs very quickly) they would probably end up getting into a war because of humans starting to fear and hunters popping up. Shifters getting sick and tired of this BS would start a war which would end up becoming WW3. It would take a hundred or so years due to mass population and weaponry but any ground battles would be useless because of how fragile humans are and how tough shifters are (advanced healing, strength, durability, and speed, all the fun stuff.) Obviously, for this book to exist, the shifters would win and a few hundred years later natural humans are almost all gone. They are either born a human (something wrong with DNA) or just a natural human which are rare.
All humans CAN turn into a were-shifter. Their DNA is capable with this and it is not unusual for them not to turn into the animal the person had bitten them by. Usually, now they would turn into the animal that their SOUL has picked for them. The animal usually goes along with the climate they were born with so they can survive. In the WW3 scenario, stronger creatures were born to survive the heavy injuries most were-shifters would have animals like rhinos, Russian wolves, big werecats but stronger basically the cat version of Russian wolves. Elephants could be one too but they would be smaller and faster.
Questions I assume could pop up later:
When will Rosaline meet her mate?
I was planning this 5th or 6th chapter. Maybe a cliffhanger for 4th chapters. I like cliffhangers. But I DO love writing out mate scenes. I'm a hopeless romantic so...why not. I love all the cuddly stuff.
Whats the deal with Rosaline and her mom (Odette?)
It was to add more drama. Bad things will pop up because of Rosaline finding out.
What a soul?
A soul is your were-creature. Like in normal werewolf books they can communicate with their ¨wolf¨ or ¨cat¨ etc depending on what type of book you are reading. That's what it is. Souls and Mates are permanent. Your soul was existing since the first time you were born. Every time you die you will be reborn around the same time your mate was born. Females usually are younger than their male counterparts since they want to wait for their mate to be born while males want to hurry up and get stronger before they meet their mates so they can impress them and protect them. It's VERY rare for someone to remember their past lives.
What happens if/when your mate rejects you?
Simple. The person who rejects their mate feels guilty for the rest of their life and cannot have any children and will most likely never move on. They will have pain in their head and their chest once they do this. They usually die young (most likely 10-15 years but this not always happens) from a heart attack, brain damage, or for unknown reasons. If it is known you rejected your mate they call this the Mate Rejection Kill or MRK) Once you reject them, in this life you cannot undo this rejection. However, both people need to accept the rejection and their soul has to agree with them. Your soul will always know best in this situation. If you fully mate you cannot reject at all. Once you get rejected and its both accepted, you will have a new mate in the next life. It's not the same person like the last time which is unlike the last time. The person who rejects will not have a second chance mate in this life, it can take maybe two lifetimes to meet your mate and often time you will be a human as humans normally don't have mates. Humans with a soul are called Half-Shifters. If they are bitten they often time do not survive but there is a chance they will if their potential mate is alive. For males, this does not apply. They usually survive because of how strong they usually are (not being sexist but this is how it works, woman are generally more fragile physically. Stronger woman survives the change. A more fragile woman usually survive because their soul is working hard because they know their mate is alive). Humans usually say they have MPD but this is only if they only have 2 (themselves and their soul).
However, if you are the person getting rejected (victim end):
You will feel the pain of the bond splitting however it won't be permanent damage, unlike the person who rejected you. You will quickly move on and will have a second mate later in life, which usually takes up to 5 years to meet. Sometimes (but rarely) you will not meet your second mate until your next life. Once you find your second chance mate
What about ¨Jack the Ripper¨ you mentioned earlier in the book?
In this storyline of the book. It stays along normal history but serial killers are usually half-shifters without a mate who get turned or humans who get turned and survive even though they usually don't. Mental complications pop up because their soul is new and confused about this new thing. Souls were wild animals in their previous life. They gain more intelligent through the lifespans of their human. They generally have their animal instincts still and rely on them. The mixture of animal and human instincts drive them to kill and do other criminal acts that are severe (things such as multiple rapes on different women). Small crimes such as drug selling don't usually happen because they would end up just killing their buyers. Human trafficking can happen though but 7/10 (around that number, pretty much many of them) are rape and physical abuse victims. If they do end up having kids, they do not beat or torture or rape them. They still have the animal instinct to protect their (cubs, kits, pups, kid, calf basically what were-shifters call their children) children. However, past adulthood, their children usually flee from their parent. If they do find their child again they have the common sense not to rape but they can end up harming or killing them. Usually, they will be warned to stay away before any harm happens to them.
That's the basis of them. Ill adding the character backstories in another info chapter once I have ideas!
