It was dark night that night,

Wind whistled through the clouds scattering the moonlight.

A bear walked alone beaten and cold,

Loneliness in his heart taking a toll.

He looked above him to the starry night,

His breathe catching the wind blurring his sight.

He heard rustling above him and caught a glimpse of a shadow in the air.

It brushed past him petting his hair.

What are you doing walking alone in the cold a voice said from the trees.

He stood up and looked around trying to see.

He saw two eyes starring at him from above,

He wondered if it was an owl, raven or dove.

I am always alone he said back to the creature.

It moved closer so as to show its features.

A black, elegant raven stood in front of the bear,

Eyes so yellow he could do nothing but stare.

I know that feeling all too well she said coming down from the tree.

The bear noticed a chain attached to her feet.

Why are you chained up like that, he asked moving closer to her.

He saw her eyes ignite with fear.

I was a captive she said with her voice shaking,

I broke free and flew until my wings were aching.

You're the first soul I saw in this forest,

And in need of help I am desperate.

I can help you if you'll let me the bear said,

He hoped she'd be his friend if he did.

The raven lifted her wings and flew to rest on the bears shoulders,

As he walked through the dark forest towards some boulders.

She asked him why he walked alone this night,

And he explained that he had no one near or far from sight.

It was just him and the nights have grown cold and isolated,

He had yet to find a den to get himself situated.

The raven felt bad for the bear,

The tale all too familiar to hear.

Tied down with chains used as entertainment.

Until one day she managed to escape her imprisonment.

She was battered, beaten, chained and bruised.

And he felt alone, cold and used.

She decided to stay by him and always be in his company.

As soon as he helped to free her wings.

They made it to some boulders and the raven waited,

They both stood by each other situated.

They looked at each other and felt a spark that stopped them,

Slowly the loneliness begin to mend.

The bear took the chains in his mouth and bit down hard,

The raven felt the chain fall off her feet to the floor.

She lifted her wings and flew to the treetop,

Soaring through the sky through the clouds not wanting to stop.

She saw the bears eyes upon her filled with happiness,

She flew back down to him and bowed in gratefulness.

You freed me from my imprisonment and for that I owe you the world.

I would like to join you in life if I could.

I have no one here but my own self,

And you have helped me and I would like to help you as well.

The bear gleamed in happiness and accepted the friendship,

One that would grow in their days to a love that could never separate.

They helped each other from their personal prisons.

And with newfound love they began to break down each others walls.

The raven and the bear were always together,

Even within the eternal slumber.
