I went with a simple lacy, flower patterned , grey dress that went down to my mid thigh. My hair was in a loose fish tale braid. I was so nervous. My hands were shaking wildly and my breaths were very uneven. My palms were so sweaty, I kept a tissue with me. He is just a prince. But with the pressure that we are already engaged and just now meeting for the first time is very nerve racking.Sitting on my bed, I pulled on my flats. I was apparently forbid against wearing my converse. Such a pity. A sharp knocking was at the door.
"Come in," I raised my voice enough for them to hear. The door slowly creaked open and Nolan slipped through. He shut the door softly and cracked a smile at me. I couldn't return the favor my insides were being tied and turned inside my stomach. He looked at me with .... Sorrow.
"Hey," he said quietly, just loud enough for me to hear. I tried to greet him back but I merely replied with a squeak in return. He actually laughed when that happened.
"It's not funny," I grumbled with my cheeks flaming red. Looking down at my hands, I let my stray hairs fall on to my face. A hand made contact with my chin, pulling me to face him, softly. With one hand still holding my chin in place, his other hand tucked a few strays behind my ear.
I let a sucked in a breath as his hand glided across the side of my face. I took in that moment to study his appearance. He had on a light blue button up dress shirt and grey dress pants on. His hair was brushed but normally prepared. His freckles seemed more visible in the light shining from my desk lamp across the room.
"You look dashing," I breathed out, staring straight into his brownish green orbs.
"Me? You should see you darling. You are quite the gem." Nolan told me, looking me up and down.
"I'm so nervous."
"Why? You are already engaged."
" I know, but this is the first time meeting him. What if we don't like each other? What if he is snobby and I can't stand him? What I-" I was abruptly cut off.
"He will love you. Now, I don't know if you will reciprocate those feeling. Frankly, I've never met him either. I just pray, for you sake, that he isn't a stick in the mud. " Is he pep talking me right now? It kinda feels like he is pep talking me.
I smile softly in return for his kind words. He always knew what to say. Suddenly his smile slowly inched into a frown while he looked down and then back up, to me.
"Avagilene.." He asks, even though it's not a question.
"Yes..." I slowly edge him on, encouraging him that I'm listening.
"Before you go, there's something I want to tell you. I think you would what to know. "
While Nolan's been here, he has calmed me down. But his word choice has my heartbeats speed up to a inhuman level, and my stomach feels like it is taking a beating.
"What?" I ask slowly, afraid of what was to come. He is acting strangely now. What is his going to tell me? I know what I want him to tell me. I want him to tell me to stay. I want him to say that he could never picture himself with anyone other than me, and that we should find another way around this wedding . Whatever it takes. Even if it is as just bestfriend's. Tell me to stay, I pleaded in my head.
"Avagilene, I - " he was cut off but my door slammed open and Ashly rushing through.
"Avagilene., the prince is here." She whispers to me with a frantic voice. Her eyes as wide as saucers, most defiantly mirroring my own.
"Oh god." I whisper.
