Chapter 16
I finished hanging up my clothes in my closet, looking around my new home. It was so quiet and I felt a twinge of loneliness. It had been a month and a half since I left Vane behind. Jason hadn't even spoken to me since that night. It didn't matter. I didn't need anyone anymore. Right?
I traced the tattoo on my wrist, sighing heavily as the light touch stung. Keegan would have been three months old. The thought burned like acid in the back of my head. I missed the idea of being a big, happy family. But I would never have that.
"Sin, what are you doing up so early? I thought we were going to finish unpacking after lunch." I turned my head to look at Ethan, who just smiled at me with bright eyes.
I smiled slightly. "I couldn't sleep any longer. You know how I am. My brain is always going one hundred miles a minute."
"Yes, and you never let me into that head of yours." He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I smirked as his lips caressed the side of my neck.
I shivered and pulled away. "It's none of your business what goes on in my head. I told you, we are just having some fun."
"You know I want more than that." He said, pouting slightly. I sighed, shaking my head at him.
"No, Ethan. You know that I don't do well with emotions. Let's just keep this platonic."
He frowned at me. "Really? You're still thinking like that. What, did you love someone and lose them or something?"
"Or something."
"Well, how about we go out for lunch? I could use a nice steak." He smiled brightly at me again, as if I hadn't just walked all over him.
I shrugged, turning back to my closet. "Sure, I don't care."
"Yeah. That doesn't surprise me." He said, rolling his eyes and stalking towards the bathroom.

I yawned and leaned back in the booth, moving my salad around my plate. Ethan watched me with wide brown eyes, staring at me as if he was trying to decipher some sort of code. "Quit staring at me."
"I'm sorry, but you just look so angry."
I rolled my eyes. "Like I said, it's none if your business." As I looked up from my salad, I saw a familiar figure over Ethan's shoulder. Vane...
"I don't know why I put up with you." He said, taking a deep swig of his ale.
I watched Vane's back as he sat in a booth across the restaurant. "I didn't ask you to." I whispered, staring at the man I walked out on.
"Who are you looking at?" Ethan asked, turning to look over his shoulder. "Really? You're out with me and you're staring at another man?"
My eyes fluttered back to Ethan. "No. It's just somebody that I used to know."
"Is that him?"
I looked down at my hands. "What are you talking about?"
"You love him." Ethan said, glaring at me.
I shook my head. "I don't love anyone."
A sudden clap echoed throughout the restaurant. My cheek stung and my hand flew up to my face. I stared at Ethan in shock. "Don't lie to me. Don't treat me like your bitch. I'm worth more than that."
"Keep your hands to yourself." I heard Vane's voice and my entire body seemed to relax. "I suggest you walk away before I beat the shit out of you."
Ethan stared up at Vane. "I... I didn't mean to. I was just angry."
"What a poor excuse for a man." Vane upturned his nose, waiting for Ethan to leave. The smaller man quickly stood and scurried out of the restaurant. I smiled at Vane in thanks before pulling out a twenty dollar bill and setting it on the table.
Standing from the table, I tried to slip past Vane. He grabbed my arm and looked me straight in the eye. "You lost Keegan, Sin. But you don't need to lose yourself too." He released me and walked back to his table. Leaving me standing on my own. I watched him walk away, wondering if that's what it felt like when I was the one to walk out.
