I swallowed the bite of steak in my mouth before slowly raising my eyes to meet Vane’s. He smiled at me, his eyes flashing for a split second. The sight of him sitting across the table from me soothed my worries, but only for a moment. He quickly picked up his glass of wine, and held it out to me. “Have you tried this?”

 

“No.” I answered. He chuckled and slid it into my hand. I timidly took a drink, surprised by the flavor. I handed it back before taking a drink of water. “It is extremely sweet.”

 

Vane nodded, smiling a little wider. “But it is good. As a matter of fact, I have bought the vineyard this wine comes from.”

 

“I didn’t see you as a wine connoisseur.” I teased, taking another bite off my plate.

 

“I have a lot of layers.” He raised an eyebrow at me, taking my hand from across the table and pressing his lips against my palm. “As a matter of fact, I plan to take you there sometime in the near future.”

 

That made me curious. “What would I do at a vineyard? I am not from the same class as you. I wouldn’t know what was proper, or what wasn’t.” He smiled even wider and stood, still holding my hand as he walked around the table to drop to one knee. “Oh my god.”

 

“Sinclair, from the moment I laid eyes on you, that day in my office, I have wanted you. My body had overruled my ability to think and compartmentalize. You were only supposed to be a small part of my day, of my life. It wasn’t long before you were my entire world. The way you hold yourself, the way you see yourself surprise and intrigue me everyday.” He paused for a moment. “If someone had told me that I would find a woman who could tame me, and my heart, I would have laughed and called them a fool. But here I am, holding my heart out to you. It’s yours, as is this ring and promise of forever if you will accept them.”

 

He pulled out a small red box with gold lettering. Sin. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that I couldn’t even breathe. The man I was in love with wanted to be with me forever. It was better than what they described in fairytales. This was real. He was real, and he was mine. My answer was simple. “Yes.”

 

“I love you. And I want to be with you, no matter how hard it gets.” He said, his mouth lifted into a blinding smile. One that made my heart soar. He lovingly slid the diamond ring onto my finger before leaning up to give me a full kiss in front of the entire restaurant, who I realized were clapping and cheering.

 

I blushed and slid away reluctantly, eager to return home with my fiance. Anything could be possible with him. I could heal with him by my side, and I could still start a family with him. I wasn’t broken, just scarred. “Perhaps we should get out of here…” I whispered into his ear as I hugged him. He stiffened slightly, pulling away and nodding discretely before taking his seat across the table once more.

 

He turned to a passing waiter and said, “Check.”

Once home, we didn’t even make it past the foyer before I was untying his tie with unsteady hands. It had been so long since I had allowed myself to be with him in this way. It was my way of making sure that he wanted to be with me for me, and not because he just wanted an heir. A month of torturous abstinence nearly drove me up a wall, but it all paid off in the end.

 

His hand cupped the back of my head, while the other snaked to my backside, where he squeezed and pulled my body closer while his mouth devoured mine. I smiled against his lips just seconds before he spoke. “I meant what I said. I love you.”

 

“I love you, too.” I pulled him back in for a kiss. His body trapped mine between his and the wall while he bit my bottom lip and licked the sting away. This was it. This was my forever.

Somewhere in the haze of my passion, I could hear knocking. I groaned outwardly and gently pushed Vane away to open the door. “Jason! Vane, help me get him inside!”
