Chapter X: A New Elite

When Jayson woke up again, he was in a hospital bed, with a feeding tube in his right arm. He quickly unplugged himself, and sat up. He tried stepping out of bed, but when he did his right leg gave out and Jay fell on the floor with a loud thud. The crash was loud enough for Nicole and Rob to hear, and they ran back into the hospital room to see their friend lying on the floor. "You're okay!!!" Robert yelled as he and Nicole hugged their friend and lifted Jay back into bed. "Yeah I'm alright...How long have I been out?" He asked. Nic replied "Nearly three days." Jay then remembered his friend Natalie, who had been wounded early on. "How is she doing?" he asked. Rob then pulled the curtain on the side of Jay's bed, to reveal Nat, still out cold, and with multiple machines hooked up to her. "Oh no." Jay said. "The doctors say that she's been breathing on and off. But the really weird thing is that the wound has been patched and the bullet removed, but for some reason she just isn't responding." Nic said. When the doctor arrived to remove the bandage from her back, they saw that the wound had completely healed, and that Natalie was breathing on her own again. "Wow. I've never seen a wound like that heal so quickly. A bullet to the spine takes months, even years to recover. She did it in three days." Robert spoke. Jay then began to think something was up. "I need a blood sample from Nat and Nic. There's something abnormal here in play."

After a couple of days Jay was walking again, and the blood samples were ready. One doctor brought the results. He was short, with dark skin, long black hair, and brown eyes. "My name is Dr. Floyd, and your results are ready. So you asked us to examine the genetic code in both Nicole and Natalie Gonzalez." Jay got out of bed, as his healing factor kicked in and healed his thigh. "What's the deal." Dr. Floyd then pulled up a few tables. "This here is Nicole's blood sample, it definitely had an enhance gene in there unlike any from Earth." He pulled up a second chart and said "This is Natalie's blood sample from when she was first brought to the hospital." The two codes in the chart only had a few matching points, and the rest were completely different. "Nicole has DNA that's foreign to Earth." He then pulled up Jay's blood sample and said "Your DNA is more complex, because only a quarter of it matches with Nicole's foreign DNA. Meaning that someone in your family was some sort of being from another planet or something." Jay replied "That would be my grandfather on that part." Dr. Floyd then pulled up a final chart. "Now this is Natalie's sample from two days ago. As you can see, the genes have essentially mutated, because now over 60% of her DNA matches Nicole's unearthly code. It likely means that the bullet somehow jumpstarted the mutation. But nobody in your family other than Nic had this DNA did they?" Nicole then remembered "Our mom did actually. But she died nearly 16 years ago." Dr. Floyd then said "Then that means this was likely a dormant gene, that jumpstarted to keep her alive when she was flatlining, almost like a defense mechanism. That would explain how she would continuously stop and start breathing." "So if and/or when she wakes up, she'll have powers?" Jay asked. "She will wake up, and she will have powers. But the extent of her powers would be unknown. Right now she's going through a metamorphosis. It could be weeks, or even months until she wakes up again." Floyd replied.

Outside the hospital room, Nicole and Jayson began discussing the future. "So what now? We're essentially criminals on the run right now. Not to mention we're down two members. What happens next for us?" Nicole asked. Jay replied "Now, we take the drive and upload that information to the Internet, and let the people decide. That should clear our name for the most part." "But what about us. Zach's gone and my own sister is stuck in a limbo! How are we supposed to keep going like this?" Nic questioned. Her voice was cracking and she was holding back tears. Jay held her and said "It's gonna be fine Nic. We're gonna be okay. You're right. We are at a shortage. But that can be fixed. We need to find others like us. Youth that were taken advantage of by IATO, experimented on, and given supernatural abilities like Zach. We can preserve his legacy with IATO, and turn it around and make something great out of it. All we have to do is try." Nicole replied "Since we still have the drive, we should be able to access the database. But I do recall there being names on their shortlist. A telepathic teen from Illinois, a college student in Uganda, who can stop a Rolls Royce moving 60 miles per hour within seconds and walk away with a scratch. Those are only a few of these guys. If we can get them together to fight for something they believe in. If we can get at least these enhanced around the world to unite and work together, we might be able to make a real change in the world." The two finished talking and went back inside the hospital room.

Seconds later, people in suits and sunglasses stormed the hospital rooms. "We're here with the CIA." One of them said "The Elites are now under our protection. But the real reason we're here is because your presence has been requested by Director Liam Pirce and President Donald Trump to attend a briefing at the Capitol Building tomorrow morning, most likely to decide your group's fate. As of now you have been disbanded permanently and are to be prosecuted. However we are going to try our best to ensure that you are not prosecuted. We've been working with the FBI for months to uncover crucial info to prosecute Pirce, as he's been on our radar ever since he started this private sector. You have our support tomorrow." Rob replied "Thank you. That really means a lot to us. What is your name sir?" The man in the suit then said "It's Francisco. Deputy Director Charles Francisco." Jay then said "Thank you Mr. Francisco. We appreciate what you're putting on the line for us." After that, the men left. "I think we have a perfect opportunity on our hands here. If things go south, we have access to the IATO database. If we upload all that intel, the government will have no choice but to side with us." Robert said. "We can collapse their entire system from the inside!" Nicole then replied "If we're trying to get our freedom back, we should do it fairly. We only leak the files once we're free, or as a last resort."
