Chapter 27: The Truth

All the monsters surrounded the Oozmas and congratulated them.

"Way to go, Oozma Kappa!" a monster said, taking a selfie with Terry and Terri.

"Thank you!" Terry returned.

"Thanks a lot," Terri added.

"You rule!" another monster told Don, giving him a high-five.

"I have never ruled before," Don commented.

Sulley got his stuff and joined his team, as did Y/N.

"You guys killed it out there!" Sully commented.

"Awesome work, you guys!" Y/N said.

Then they turned around to see Mike at the simulator.

"Hey, Wazowski! Come on, let's go, you maniac! We're celebrating," Sulley called as they ran up to him.

"Mike?" Y/N asked when they didn't get a response.

"I did it. I can't believe it. I'm going to be a Scarer!" Mike replied happily.

"Yeah, yes, you are," Sulley chuckled as Y/N smiled.

"You hear that? Get plenty of rest, kiddo. You haven't seen the last of Mike Wazowski. Boo!" Mike stated.

The robotic kid screamed and the point for Mike filled up then the kid went back to sleep.

"I knew I was scary. I didn't know I was that scary," Mike chuckled weakly.

"Yeah, we're so scary I guess we broke it. Come on," Sulley said.

That got Mike thinking. He snapped his fingers at the kid and the same thing happened. He then looked to see the lock on the box with the settings on it broken.

"It's been tampered with," Mike pointed out.

"What do you mean?" Y/N asked, also looking at it.

"Uh, I don't think you should be messing with that," Sulley said.

But that didn't stop Mike and he opened the little hatch to show his settings down to "Easy" while the others were at "Hard".

"Why are my settings different?" Mike asked.

"Mike, we should leave," Sulley urged nervously.

"Did you do this?" Mike asked, standing up.

"Mike," Sulley started.

"Did you do this?" Y/N repeated sternly as she walked up to him, arms crossed.

"I--" Sulley stammered, sighed, then confessed, "Yes, I did. But you don't understand."

"Why? Why did you do this?" Mike wondered.

"You know, just in case," Sulley answered.

"In case of what?" Mike asked.

Sulley didn't answer, giving Y/N and Mike the answer they needed.

"Oh gosh," Y/N sighed with disappointment.

"You don't think I'm scary," Mike answered for him.

"Guys..." Sulley started.

"You said you believed in me. But you're just like Hardscrabble. You're just like everyone else!" Mike snapped.

"Look, you'll get better and better..." Sulley tried to assure.

"I'm as scary as you! I'm as scary as anyone!" Mike yelled.

"I just wanted to help," Sulley insisted.

"No. You just wanted to help yourself," Mike stated.

"Well, what was I supposed to do? Let the whole team fail because you don't have it? Even Y/N knew," Sulley explained.

Mike was shocked at what Sulley said. Y/N was too. When Mike saw that she looked a little guilty, he went up to her angrily.

"Thanks for the encouragement, sis," he stated sarcastically.

He walked off and Sulley turned to see the other members look at them sadly; they heard the whole thing. They walked off, leaving the trophy. Y/N looked at Sulley, upset.

"I can't believe you. I probably just lost my best friend because of you," Y/N said.

"Y/N, I--" Sulley tried to explain.

"Just forget it," she snapped.

She walked away to find Mike as the lights of the field turned off, leaving Sulley in the dark.
