"Yeah, uh, there's no way I'm going in there." I turned away to go back to camp, but Dirk grabbed my hand.
"Come on, let's go exploring! Like old times!"
"Old times? The old times weren't very fun, Dirk."
"Yes, they were!" He started pulling me inside, "You only got hurt once."
"Three times!" I groaned, "Remember? I tripped over a rock and hit my head? Another time you tried to scare me and I ended up stepping back on a sharp rock-"
"It's your fault you weren't wearing shoes."
"We were swimming on the beach! I wasn't going to go all the way back just for some sandals!"

Dirk laughed and we kept walking into the dark cave. About five minutes into the cave, I realized that Dirk was still holding my hand. It didn't necessarily bother me, but it did feel a little awkward. I wondered if he noticed or not...

Honestly, I haven't gone exploring like this since we've been together. The last time was in the middle of our relationship. It usually ended up with us making out or having sex wherever we were. If people would come around, we'd hide behind a rock or something, hoping we wouldn't get caught. Ha, that was fun... Sometimes I miss it.

"Hey, you think these are safe to eat?" Dirk let go of my hand and walked up to the wall, pointing at some nasty looking mushrooms.
"No way. We aren't eating those." I inspected the mushrooms, "Yeah, no. These aren't edible."
"Damn. They look cool though."
"I suppose."
"What's on your mind?"
I looked up, "What?"
"Whenever you're thinking about something, you usually say 'I suppose' in response to whatever I'm talking about."

I stood straight and crossed my arms, raising an eyebrow. I couldn't help but let out a chuckle, "You sure do know me."
"Well, we used to date. Just because we aren't anymore doesn't mean I completely threw out everything I know about you. So, what's on your mind?"
"Oh, it's nothing worth mentioning-"
"Go ahead," Dirk picked up a stick and used it to poke at the odd-looking mushrooms, "We have a bunch of time, I'm down to listen."

I laughed and leaned back against the wall of the cave, staring at the stick making contact with the mushroom, "I was just thinking back to when we used to go adventuring. Mostly when I didn't get hurt."
Dirk smiled, "Like when?"

It'd be the death of me if I told him what I was really thinking about.

"Um, remember when we were first together and we went out for the first time to my family's private island? The vine swinging?"

Dirk burst out laughing, "Holy shit, I remember. I was scared shitless! I was holding onto you for dear life. I was so scared I was going to die."

"I kept telling you we were safe

"I kept telling you we were safe. I'd done it a million times, plus, there was water below us, remember?"
"Yes, I remember. Shit was still scary, though. I wasn't used to it. You're talking to a city boy."

I laughed, "What made you finally decide to try it by yourself at the last minute?"
"Honestly, I was trying to impress you. I thought you thought I was a wimp for denying to do it on my own the whole time-"
"I never thought that about you."
"I know," Dirk nodded, "But I still wanted to impress you and make you think I was worth sticking around for." Dirk's smile fell, "Guess that plan didn't work out very well..."
