Red and Orange

I woke up with a sudden absense of warmth.

The first thing I saw was red and orange, like my eyes were swimming in it. I finally opened my eyes, revealing the bright light coming through the bug scattered screen. The window was open, kinda explaining the absense of warmth.

I noticed Jasper wasn't there. I sat straight up, looking around the room groggily, still waking up. My eyes adjusted to the light, showing Jasper wasn't in the room. I looked in the bathroom, but no luck.

What if he left me? What if he regreted asking me? What if he was trying to be nice, but hoping I would say no?

As these questions piled into my head, I sat on the torn couch and started tearing up.

He couldn't leave me! He wouldn't! But what if he did?

By now I was crying, shaking trying to conceal my feelings. His bag was gone, saying he had left. I couldn't get home by myself, we were driving for hours!

I was so consumed on my thoughts, I didn't hear the door open, let alone close. I felt a strong arm around me, warming me. I looked up and almost screamed with relief.

It was Jasper.

"Oh, thank God! Jas, you're here!" I hugged him tightly, while he fumbled for a good grasp, but then hugged me tighter then I could ever hug him.

"Where were you? I thought you left me! Don't do that again, please!" I stopped crying for a second, but I continued after he started cradling me in his arms.

"You thought I left?"

I nodded

"I would never leave you," he said, "ever."

I was crying harder, but he still cradled me in his arms, as I had my arms around his neck.

He explained why he left after I settled down.

"I didn't know you would wake up, I went to put my stuff in the car and told reception we would be leaving soon. Why did you think I would leave you like that?"

I shrugged,  "I thought you regreted it, or was hoping I would say no to you." My voice was hoarse, from sobbing. He knew my emotions as well as I did, I got mad/sad easily.

"Never, will I ever leave you unannounced," he said seriously.

"Okay," I said.

After I changed and checked out, I started driving north.

"How much longer until we can stop driving?"

He shrugged "Soon, I have a buddy who said he would take us in, meaning we could live there."

I never thought about where we would go. Reckless me.

"Okay, so where does he live?"

"Up by the lake, nice big house, about a 5 minute walk to get to the beach."

"Oh, cool."

"Wait, I forgot something!" he smiled, reaching to the backseat, "Here, I didn't have time to make you one, so I picked it." It was a beautiful red and orange tulip, like when you close your eyes when it's bright out.

"Oh, Jasper, you didn't-" He cut me off.

"I promised I would give you a flower everyday I see you, take it."

He tucked it in a open water bottle in the cup holder.

"Classy," I said.

"So very classy," He said, then winked.
