"You've been in LA for one day and you're already acting like an fake bitch."
I looked back at Alex, my best friend, as she pouted behind me.
"Just because I didn't buy you coffee, does not mean I am turning into a fake bitch." I argued.
She walked up to me, lips still pouted, and slung her arm around my shoulder. I stumbled from the surprising weight of her arm and almost dropped everything I was holding.
"Do you mind removing your heavy ass arm?"
"Yes. Now, let's get to my apartment before I change my mind abut letting you stay here."
I groaned and continued to walk next to her. We just got back from shopping and we were carrying about a hundred bags....okay not really. More like five. Everything was way too expensive for me. I liked clothes and shoes but not enough to pay $70 for a shirt and $120 for a skirt. We ended up in a thrift store that had really cute clothes, so we stayed in there the entire two hours we were out. The uber that we called was kind enough to drop off three blocks from her apartment because he didn't want to be stuck in traffic. We stopped at Starbucks, yes Starbucks, and got coffees. Then she began bitching at me because I wouldn't buy coffee for her.
"I can't wait to see that dress on you." she said beside me.
"Yeah me neither. Let's just hope it fits around my ass." I half-joked.
"Don't worry, I'll just stuff you like a sausage."s he laughed.
My laugh was half real and half terrified because I knew she wasn't joking. I adjusted the bags on my arms so the blood flow could finally come back. We made small talk and joked while we walked to the building. We made it to the front door and walked in. The guard or whoever he was supposed to be nodded at us as walked toward to the elevator. You know the feeling of knowing someone checking out your ass, yeah that was the feeling I was getting. He was a kind of cute so I didn't mind but it was still kind of shady.
She pressed the up elevator button and we waited in the lobby for it to come down. The apartment building wasn't anything fancy but it was good enough. It had about ten floors and was located pretty close to downtown. She told me that the only reason she could afford it was because apparently someone paid two months rent but then left before it ran out. I don't know how the hell someone would pay almost $3000 and then up and leave but then again it is California. People do odd shit all the time.
The doors opened with a ding and Alex hit the fifth floor button. She pulled out her phone and started taking pictures. Mostly of herself. When she did take pictures of us, we would just make weird ass faces towards the camera. I was always jealous of how photogenic and gorgeous she was. While I was on the sideline, she was getting every guys' number and then some.
"Okay. Can we actually take a cute one now? I need something to post." she begged.
"Fine." I say with a fake groan.
I put my hands on her shoulders and smiled. And it was a genuine smile. I haven't seen Alex in almost a year and you try going a year without seeing your best friend in person. It was hard. She was always the house I would go over when I had a shitty day or even when I had the best day. We shared everything together from since we were six years old. Not having her presence around sucked. She moved, like she had always planned, after we graduated high school. Between me going to college and her trying to make a living, it was hard for us to meet up and actually see each other.
"Aw that one is cute. One for the books." she smiled.
I smiled back at her and bumped her side.
"I really missed you Alex."
"I missed you more Shawn."
She laid her head on my shoulder for a brief moment until the doors opened. We walked out and went to her room. She fished out her key from her bag and unlocked the door to her apartment. Ever since we were small, she had an obsession with the color white. And now that the world has introduced white marble to Alex, she has began an obsession. There was white marble everywhere white marble could be placed. Her couch was a suede grey, matching her grey carpet. She had white marble tables, plates, decor, lamps, and her bedding. I knew where my room was already so I just went straight there to put my bags down.My arms finally felt relief. I sat on the bed to take a breather, but of course the second my butt touched the mattress Alex came in.
"Nope. Get your ass up and try on the dress." she said, standing in the doorway.
I groaned, looking at her with a pout. I fell back on the bed with a sigh of relief. Alex said something under her breath and walked closer to the bed. She gripped my wrists and tried to pull me up. Key word is tried. I used my feet to create a barrier between us. Though I knew she was getting frustrated, we were laughing at how stupid we looked. We were like two five year old fighting.
"Fine. Don't have anything to wear tonight."
I stopped fidgeting and looked at her. She had a grin on her face knowing that she peaked my attention. I sat up on the bed and crossed my legs.
"What's happening tonight?"
Her smile grew even bigger.
"Alex."
She threw her hands in defeat.
"Well I was gonna wait until later. But I'm modeling in a show and we have a party to go to tonight." she cheered.
My mouth dropped. I can't believe this was happening. She had always had a dream of being a model ever since we were in middle school. That was the main reason she moved to LA. I jumped off the bed and onto her to give her a hug.
"I'm so proud of you Alex! I can't believe you kept this from me." I said, hitting her arm.
"I know. I'm sorry. But I wanted it be a surprise for when you got here. So surprise!" she cheered.
I laughed and hugged her again. I kept saying how proud I was of her until she threatened to ship me back if I kept going. Now knowing why she wanted me to try on the dress, I picked up the bag and got the dress out. It was a red silk bodycon dress with a slit in the front. I removed my clothes and slipped into the dress. I looked in the mirror, turning to see different angles. I wasn't in love with my body so anything body con made me nervous. Apparently, Alex knew what I was thinking because she began to speak.
"Shawn you look hot. I know what your brain is thinking so make it stop. Plus your ass looks great." she said, slapping it.
I laughed and rolled my eyes. The more I looked at myself, the more flaws I found. I turned away from the mirror and stood in front of Alex.
"Okay. I look hot. But what are you wearing?"
She gave me a smirk and stood up from the bed. She told me to follow with her finger and that's what I did. We walked to her room and I saw a bag laying on her bed. She eagerly danced to it and unzipped it.
"Holy shit Alex."
