Five years later...
"What, Scott?" Serena asked annoyed.
"Geez, woman, why are you so miserable today?" Scott asked, he himself on the brink of annoyance.
"Because, I'm a woman," Serena said.
"Well, that sucks," Scott replied with a smirk.
"I'm gonna smack that smug look off your face if it's the last thing I do," Serena promised.
"Ouch. Grumpy," Scott stated.
"And you love me for it," she stuck out her tongue.
"Yes I do," Scott caught her tongue with his mouth and kissed her.
Five years ago, Serena met this wonderful man. She was greatly apprehensive at first but he broke down her walls with a bulldozer. He was so damn persisitent, goodness gracious. What she admired most was exactly that- the fact that he kept on trying. She could only imagine what a huge pain she was being back then. Serena could kick herself for it.
They were both fresh out of college. Well, he was anyway. She had three whole years on him. Serena had a job that she liked so far. She moved out of her parents house which felt awesome. She should've done that a long time ago but oh well. Serena had her own little apartment and it was comfortable enough for her.
Scott too had found a job but for now he was still living with his parents. He was searching intently for someplace to go, however.
"We're going out tonight," he announced.
"Scott," She whined, "I told you I'm accustomed to these spontaneous outings,"
"Get used to it, babe," he got up and stretched. "Be back in an hour,"
He gave her a kiss on the cheek before swiftly leaving. Smart bugger; he knew to leave before she continued her argument.
She relaxed for fifteen minutes before taking a shower. After, she donned a casual, long-sleeved, dark gray, knee-length dress. It hugged her curves just right.
At seven thirty, Scott arrived in a casual outfit black slacks and blue cotton shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. It clung to his muscles. Serena had to refrain herself from putting her hands on him.
Once they arrived at the restaurant she began to feel a twinge of protectiveness. She could see all of the female attention Scott was attracting. Primal instinct was to mark her territory, make herself vivsible, known. She was too shy for that.
Scott was having a great time with Serena as usual. She was a bombshell of a woman- shape and personality. He be damned if he let her go. He was just aching to tell her. To see the look on her face. To hear her reply.
They were on the terrace with only a handful of people. Scott knew she was sigh but...
Violet who could now walk successfully appeared out of nowhere. Scott's parents had their apparently decided last child a year ago. She, though, had her mothers eyes and not the jade green jewels that Serena had to put up with. Her hazel eyes were just as pretty though.
Serena bought her to sit on her lap.
"What's this honey?" She asked Violet, tapping the box in the child's hands. Violet pushed the velvet box into her face.
Serena stole a glance at Scott, whose stare was pretty intense. Once she had the box in her hands, Violet squirmed to be released.
With the intent of not getting her hopes up, Serena opened the box expecting diamond earrings.
She stopped breathing when she saw it. A silver, pear cut diamond ring. Right there under the ring, written in silver was the statement "Please say yes"
Serena only realised that time hadn't stopped but that she was just still when Scott on bended knee took the box from her hand and place the ring on her finger.
She just stared at the ring on her finger before he bought her chin up so that their eyes could meet. His eyes were questioning, unsure, hopeful.
After awhile he asked the question. "Will you marry me, Serena?"
She managed to choke out the word 'yes' with a slight nodd. The stillness around her broke out in applause.
Scott stood and pulled her up to him. They shared an intimate kiss at that moment.
As hands affectionately touched their shoulders, they broke the kiss. Scott's family was there, so were her friends, her parents and his friends.
"You had my heart in my throat," Scott commented.
"Well, I half expected I'd be the one to propose," Serena laughed while wiping away her tears of joy. She really didn't want to cry but it was just happening.
The group laughed in unison.
"So they journey begins," Scott finally said, looking her deep in the eyes.
"So the journey begins," Serena repeated with a wide smile.
