Maddox's POV:

There we were again, stuck in the same scenario as the first day I'd come to this rundown school. Obviously he'd told Tammy because she was glaring at me as soon as I'd stepped into the classroom. We met eyes for a split second before he looked down at his desk, flipping his pencil between two fingers.

As I sat down in my regular seat, he glanced at me one last time. I saw his lips purse as if he was going to say something, but then he decided against it. Instead, he sunk down in his seat and put his hand up to cover his face, preventing me from looking at him.

I heard a small growl from the lioness sitting beside me, and out of nowhere she nudged me with the tip of her shoe. "You better stay away from him, or I'll beat you to a pulp."

As soon as she said that, I snapped. I hated that he went running right back to her when things got a little wobbly, "Seriously, Tammy? You're acting like a protective best friend now? I've backed away for a while, but this is over the top. I mean, seriously? Didn't you say you had a crush on him, and now you're acting like I'm the bad guy? Look at my damn face!" I tried my best to whisper yell at her, but realized it wasn't working out when half the class turned to glare at me. For the first time in my life, I blushed in public. Don't get me wrong, I love attention, but at that moment I just wasn't in the mood.

"Don't act like we're the villains in this scenario, you're the one who started it and you know it. You should be ashamed of always hurting Destery," she snapped back.

That was it. I couldn't do this anymore. "Me? Hurting him? Are you kidding me? It's not my job to tell his parents about what he's going through. That's Destery's job. As soon as he tells them we can move into phase two. I can't do it for him, so don't blame me. Besides, I'm not the one who punched the crap out of his face. So fuck you. Fuck both of you," I muttered under my breath before getting to my feet, slinging my backpack over one shoulder, and walking out of the room.

I kept walking until I got out the doors of the school. I turned left and leaned against the wall for only a brief moment before sinking into a sitting position, my face buried in my hands. Relationships are a waste of time, fuck them, I thought. I pulled out my phone and, as if it was on instinct, I called Chaise. He must've known what was wrong because with a simple, "I need you," and ten minutes later(of speeding, nonetheless), he was before me, pulling me to my feet.

He was dressed in all black with his hair slicked up. I bit my lip as he leaned down and hugged me, "What's up, loser?" When he pulled away, he immediately captured my chin in his hands to examine the bruises on my face, "You got into a fight and you didn't tell me about it? Please tell me the other guy looks worse than this, cause if not I'm going t-"

"I need you to get me out of here. Just keep driving until we get somewhere far away." I cut him off and forced him to release me, walking past him to the car — a white Camaro. He joined me, starting the car. He knew what was wrong, and yet he didn't say a word. I adored him for that reason.

We kept driving until we got to his house, which looked like absolute heaven. I didn't wait for the car to come to a complete stop before getting out. The door had a numerical lock on it, and having been here so many times, I remembered it.

He chuckled and followed me inside, "I'm going to have to change that lock. If I piss you off, you could come here in the middle of the night and murder me and nobody would know."

"I suggest just not pissing me off. That way you have no worries at all." I strode through the house I had learned everything in. Here was where I'd had my first time and where Chaise had taught me my lifestyle. But also, here was where I'd had my heart broken for the first time.
