Prologue

The day Lance was born was also the day his mom's heart broke. That's the only explanation to why Lance ended up the way did. That day Lance's mom realized her husband would never come back from work. She'd tried calling the police and everything but it turned out he just left and a month later she accepted that, the same day Lance was born, her skin faded and her heart freckled, she had known then that her husband was not in love with her anymore her supposed soulmate who had kissed her and given her color was now taking it away and leaving black freckles on her chest where her heart was placed. When she birthed Lance on the same day he came out with a freckled heart, which never happened, sure there were kids and teenagers who had a soulmates who died but never this. You see when you had a soulmate in this world and you happen to fall out of love or one died and the alive one still grieved you're heart would become freckled and your color would become faded until you found another soulmate or got over your lost one. Lance, since birth had a freckled heart that was very visible and had no faded color and had no color like all the other babies, for you could only gain color when you kissed your soulmate although there had been some accounts where soulmates refused to kiss each other so they started gaining color at the touch of their soulmate considering how long they'd been prolonging it.

Society was built around soulmates and having a freckled heart meant you were judged and leaving your soulmate or cheating on your soulmate was the worst possible thing you could do that was legal. People usually sought out for their soulmates out of the desire to gain color or find their lover.

So Lance having a freckled heart since birth made everyone frown upon him because they made assumptions and because of this Lance had little friends and became an outcast making it hard to find a soulmate meaning he was left with the freckles.

When Lance was 4 his mom found another soulmate meaning her freckles went away but Lance's didn't. He loved his step dad but was disappointed his mother could no longer relate to what Lance went through.

When Lance was 6 he met his best friend, Hunk, he was big and protected Lance from all the bullies. They'd kissed in 2nd grade to make sure they weren't soulmates and continued to have no color. Lance kissed any girl or boy or person he could to desperately get rid of the freckles.

In 5th grade a boy came to school though, Lance thought he was beautiful. He claimed he didn't want to find a soulmate because his adopted parents were soulmates and hated each other but were bound together.

Lance thought that was weird but understood knowing what happened to his dad. He desperately wanted to kiss the boy but never could since he refused everyone and Lance never approached him because he was scared he'd be rejected because he had a freckled heart. Which usually didn't bother him. But it was Keith, for some reason he wouldn't be able to handle that.

They went to the same school for the rest of elementary and then middle school and then high school. But in high school the soulmate thing became more hectic. People gained soulmates left and right and almost all the seniors had soulmates.

Freshman year was also the year Lance grew closer to Keith. He'd gotten the courage to sit next to him and their friendship sprouted. Lance grew more infatuated with him though. He tried to get girls instead to distract him and sought after Allura for a long time which Keith endlessly made fun of him for and would do impressions of Allura and Lance's conversations. Sophomore year they spent almost every living second together. Hunk being able to attest to this as he could never hang out with one with out the other. But then it happened.

Lance suggested they kiss to make sure and Keith surprisingly didn't reject him, he said, quote, "I don't think I would kill myself if I was stuck with you forever."

So they decide they'd do it. But Keith continuously chickened out. During this two month period Lance started sending him encouraging notes and letters every single day, he'd put them in Keith's locker and Keith absolutely loved it. Then during winter break, it happened. They kissed and it was beautiful it was soft and tasted good like strawberries and cinnamon. Then it ended and they both seemed to glow but still remained colorless.

Lance had less freckles but they were still there. They tried again and again and again, desperately wanting something to happen.

"Why isn't anything happen?" Lance panicked.

"I don't know Lance, maybe we just aren't-" Keith started.

Lance interrupted, "then what the hell have I been feeling for you since 5th grade?"

"I don't know Lance..." he looked sad, "but I felt it to, whatever it was and I wanted to so badly be your soulmate."

They grew further apart after that but Lance still sent him a letter every day. Keith started hanging out with douchebags like Lotor so it was impossible to even get to Keith without Lance being teased for his freckled heart which only got worse when he found out Keith wasn't his soulmate.

Which then brought Lance to his senior year when he stopped giving the letters to Keith because Keith came to school with color. What hurt was that he looked even more beautiful and his soulmate... was Lotor.

A/n: so this has been the story I've been working on and I finally finished the prologue... and nothing else. But I kept writing and deleting and writing and deleting. But anyways please enjoy because I really like this au I came up with.
