- Kathrine Vane -

"Ladies and gentlemen please fasten your seat belts and prepare for landing. Welcome to New York." The pilot tells us through the speaker. Looking out the window I see the many bright city lights illuminating the dark night sky. New York. I'm finally back after two years. I'm ready. It's time for me to show them who's really the boss. Straightening my posture I prepare for landing.

Shortly, after about five minutes we descend into JFK International Airport. Here we go, I think walking down the aisle from the plane to the airport building. Walking into the lobby I am immediately met with a scream of glee and squished by none other than Alice Vane.

God, she still looks the same. Same blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and gorgeous as ever. When I went to Alice's middle school, before my parents moved just beyond the borderline of our two schools, she used to always attract the guys. I'm sure that hasn't changed one bit.

While Aunt Letrice is my mother's sister Alice is my cousin from my father's side. I have plenty more but I don't talk to anyone other than Alice.

"Kat! Finally, I've been waiting here for forever! Look at you! You've changed!" She says as she continues to hug me. "It's been a while. How are you?" Her smile drifts as she lets go of me.

"Oh Alice, I've missed you but should I be taking that as a compliment?" I ask, laughing. "I've been better but the last few years I've spent in Chicago with my aunt were very enjoyable. I've learned many new things about my parents and the Vane family," I say, nudging her.

"Oh, so, you know? Finally! I've been begging father to let me tell you but he wouldn't let me. It's been hard work keeping this secret from you." Alice says wiping the sweat from her forehead. "Anyway, you must be exhausted from the trip and since school starts tomorrow we better hurry on home. New York is always busy but it's hell as night."

Walking out of the airport with my suitcase and tiny suitcase in hand we make our way to the car.

While she's driving I ask, "So, where's Uncle Daniel and Aunt Karla?" Daniel and Karla are Alice's parents. They have always treated me as their own child and I've always thought of them as my second parents.

"Oh you know, mom's working at the hospital and dad said that he needed run an errand or whatever." She replies. An errand?

"So, um, Alice...I was wondering. Is your dad in another gang or?" I ask curiously but cautiously. Had he left what was left of the Ravens, was he working alone, or was he still in the gang trying to stitch up the pieces.

"Well, um, dad has actually started selling things on his own right now. Over the last two years he decided that he wouldn't want to start another gang and leave the Ravens for good but there is nothing he can do to fix it." Her facial expression shifts to a saddened look. "After the death of Uncle Martin he kind of lost hope of the Ravens blossoming again."

"And you?" I ask.

"What do you mean, Kathrine?" Alice asks confused.

"Have you lost hope in the Ravens?" I question, clearer this time.

"Honestly, I still have hope. If there was something I could do I would definitely try and contribute to the rising of the Ravens but I don't know how. Have you lost hope with your father's gang?" Cursing at the traffic her facial expression is unreadable.
