Chapter 2: Death By Nail Clippers

"Oh, hey, I gotta go. I'll see you around." I tell Anne when I receive Pia and Anthea's coffees, smiling at her. She flashed me a wide grin and nodded, giving me a quick hug as I waived goodbye at her.

Amidst our conversation, my phone had beeped twice. They were texts coming from Anthea and Pia, complaining about how they really wanted to have their Starbucks. I rolled my eyes, they could be such a pain in the arse.

I made my way through downtown London. I would drive back but my baby is in the shop today. Although I could've also used my penny board.

Dang it, I should've used my penny board.

I huffed, upset that I didn't have the idea back in the house. Oh well, that didn't matter. I'm already here anyway.

"Hi, Alex!" You might wonder who this person is. Well, her name's Karla Black and she's Pia's new roommate. She had silky strawberry blonde hair and soft hazel eyes. They reminded me of Liam's.

Oh right, did I mention I was friends with One Direction and my best friend is dating Niall Horan? Yeah, I probably should have.

"Hey, Karla! In for work?" I ask her but the answer is more than obvious. She was already wearing her uniform. "Yes, actually. My boss is going to kill me if I don't get to work on time." Karla muttered something under her breath and waived goodbye at me. I waived back at her and entered my own house.

Why do I have a feeling I forgot something?

"Hey, Al." Anthea smiled at me as I stared stupidly at her. I swear I could forget something. Did I leave my wallet or my phone back at Starbucks? I panicked and felt my pockets, sure enough they were there, but what was I forgetting?

"What? No cupcake?" Anthea asks as she hopped up the kitchen counter and sipped her coffee.

Crap.

I groaned internally and sprinted upstairs into my bedroom, grabbing my backpack and stuffing my favorite leather jacket, black pumps, my makeup bag and everything else as I pulled my hair into a tight ponytail. I shrugged on my uniform as I trudged down the stairs and went outside the door, shouting a quick farewell to Anthea.

I ran down the street as my workplace was a good five blocks away from my flat. Anthea rarely lives there anymore since she's been assigned as Lou's assistant. She's on break as of now until the end of the month, then she'll be off to Rio de Janeiro to meet the boys.

I let out a huff as soon as the pink sign that read 'Cupcake Palace' came into my line of vision. I pushed open the doors as Fiona, my boss, gave me a disapproving look. "You're late again, Alex." She tells me as I give her a sheepish grin "Sorry boss. Hectic morning." Fiona shakes her head at my excuse "You're on waitress duty." Fiona tells me as she stalks off in her killer six-inch nude pumps.

I sighed as I made my way towards the back room  and spun the dial on my locker, stuffing my bag inside but grabbing my heels and my makeup bag first. I then padded towards the washroom and shut the door, setting my makeup bag on the sink. I sighed as I pulled out my makeup and doing a quick retouch. I sat on the lid of the toilet bowl, removing my kicks and putting on my heels.

I opened the door and sucked in a breath as I opened my locker again, shoving my Vans inside and taking out my pink apron. I wobbled a little in the high heels but survived nonetheless as I made my way into the main room, taking a tray and a notepad with me.

There were two sections in the cafe, each waitress would get one section, meaning there were only two waitresses. Originally, I'm a baker but since I'm late today, Fiona assigned me as a waitress.
