"you look happy." my mom smiled as i walked into the dining room. i dropped my backpack by my chair, slumping into it tiredly.

"it's cause her boyfriend was over." georgie chirped, making me glare at the smug child.

"no daughter of mine is dating someone l—"

"hun! victor is a lovely boy." my mom cut off my dad, who was going into another one of his rants, which only i ever receive. i heard belch's car horn from outside, making me immediately push my chair back.

"aren't you g-going to eat?" bill mumbled through a spoonful of cereal.

"i'll eat at school, bye!" i yelled, slamming the front door shut as i left. i sat in between victor and patrick as i always do, henry and belch in the front.

"got your essay?" i smiled at victor, who was looking out at the passing houses. he nodded, not looking at me. i brushed it off, turning to join the rest of the boys' conversation.

-

i stood at my locker, grabbing my stuff for fourth period. henry stood beside me, impatiently waiting.

"the fuck are you looking at, fags?" he spat. i turned to see richie and eddie, two of my brothers friends, walking past us.

"henry!" i grumbled, flashing him a dirty look before turning to smile at the two uncomfortable boys. i shut my locker, beginning to walk to class. henry followed, swinging his arm around me and stomping to keep up. as we walked, i spotted victor.

"vic!" i called, he looked up for a second then immediately began to walk again. i stopped walking, watching him.

"jayde, leave it." henry grumbled, trying to pull me along.

"i'll be right back." i told him, storming away to talk to victor. i caught up to the blonde boy, grabbing his arm and turning him to face me.

"what the f—" he stopped, his face softened when he saw it was me.

"are you okay?" my brows knitted together, my hand still holding his bicep.

"why the fuck do you care?" he shook me off of him.

"vic, what the hell is wrong with you?"

"ask your fuck buddy." he spat, turning to walk away but i stopped him once again.

"what the hell are you talking about?" my voice grew louder.

"you kissed me to get back at henry, jayde. i'm not a fucking dumbass!" he yelled back, students passing began to give us odd looks. my mouth hung open slightly, my face screwing up as i tried to process what he was saying. the bell for class went, so i grabbed his hand and dragged him behind the school, where we all usually hang around.

"victor, what did henry tell you?" i shouted, crossing my arms and watching him lean against the building.

"i know you guys are dating, or fucking, whatever it is. i knew i shouldn't have said anything, god."

"henry and i aren't doing anything. he's jealous." i spoke softly, stepping forwards. "you really think i'd wanna fuck that mullet wearing asshole?"

"he clearly does." vic grunted. he lifted his shirt slightly, revealing a deep cut.

"what the fuck! did henry do that?" i sprung forwards, looking at the cut.

"pulled a knife in the middle of our argument." he dropped his shirt.

"i swear to fucking god that boys g—"

"it's fine! i'm over it."

"i'm not! i like you, victor. a lot. not henry, or patrick, belch, whatever." i finally exclaimed, making victor's breath hitch. "you actually care about me, you dong judge me. you're not like my family or the guys or anyone. i can trust you."

"i'm sorry." he breathed. "i got jealous, we all did." he finally made eye contact with me, his finger tracing the wound through his shirt. i felt awful, mostly because i'd made his best friend turn on him and practically stab him. i found myself wrapped in his arms, his head nuzzled into my neck and his hands rubbing my back. i hugged him back, my arms around his neck, my chin stretching to rest on his shoulder.

"can we start over?" i mumbled. he hummed in response, eventually lifting his head. our arms were still around each other as he moved his head closer to mine. our lips connected yet again, the oddly comforting scent of cologne and smoke coming off of him warmed me. he held me even closer, his tongue scraping mine every so often. when we parted, he had an adorable smile plastered on his face.

"i like you too, jayde."
