my eyes blinked open. victor's arms were wrapped protectively around my torso, my head against his chest and my arms wrapped around him too. his face screwed up slightly as i shifted my body slightly, his eyes fluttering open a moment later.

"i didn't mean to wake you." i giggled, my voice a low whisper. he smiled at me, our faces now level to each other.

"how are you feeling?" his voice croaked.

"i.. i dunno." i sighed, rolling onto my back. victor's arm still hugged my side close to him. he propped himself up on his elbow and left a quick kiss on my lips. i tried to hide the smile forcing itself on to my face and failed.

"you hungry? i made the best pancakes." he wiggled his eyebrows.

"sounds good."

"i'll see you monday, yeah?" victor leaned against my porch, he'd just walked me back to my house even though i told him it wasn't necessary. i nodded. "and don't worry about him."

"i'll be fine, vic." i assured him. he stood up straight, took a step forward and planted his lips against mine. the kiss lasted a few seconds, before he pulled away and began to walk home. i opened my front door, my mom standing right in front of it.

"have fun at your sleepover?" she asked sarcastically.

"mom, i saw him while i was walking back. we were j—"

"calm down, jayde." she chuckled, patting my arm. "i'm just glad you chose him over the other boys." i rolled my eyes, making my way upstairs and into my room. i fell down on to my bed, letting out a long sigh. i'd decided to simply block out what had happened with patrick the night before. i knew i wouldn't have to worry about him anymore, and i'm beyond grateful that henry stopped him when he did.

"jayde?" a voice spoke. i lifted my head, seeing bill stood by my legs.

"what?" i mumbled, letting my head drop back and my eyes lock themselves on the ceiling.

"what d-did victor mean? ab-about not worrying about s-someone?"

"bill, it's nothing. don't worry."

"did henry hurt you?" he sat next to me, whispering now.

"what? no! he's my best friend." i finally sat up, looking my younger sibling in the eyes. "i promise it's nothing, okay?" bill furrowed his eyebrows, before leaving my room in defeat. i bit my lip, watching him shut my door abruptly behind him.
