.....
Syb and I were BMFF (best magical friends forever) ever since kindergarten, when Troy Finelli, a plain fat human child with his parents' racist views, shoved me at the playground, and she stood up for me.
Kids were laughing at me, I bruised my knees and was crying my head off when she came, showed Finelli her fangs and the little shithead instantly got lost.
Lil' Syb, wearing a flowery dress, her blonde hair braidid, helped me get up and healed my knees with her fancy vampire healing power. I stopped crying told her thanks, and we became besties from that time on.
We went to elementary and high school together, though she was always among the popular ones and I was one of the outcast wierdoes, she never stopped caring about me.
After we finished she went to university in New York to study business. Syb has always been a top student and is the smartest person I've ever known. And I stayed back in town.
Until half a year ago, when I also moved here and started my little shop down on Merlin Street along other ex-high school dropout good for nothing witch.
I mean, I definitely had strong points. Not studying though.
I was still waiting for my big chance in life to rise. At that time I didn't know that it was coming soon and that in fact it wasn't really worth the anticipation.
Saturday evening after closing the shop, Saturdays were the busy ones, I had like nine costumers, I was walking back to the apartment I shared with Syb, which was in perfect walking distance from my shop.
It was the beginning of fall, the trees got all colorful and fallen leaves littered the ground. This neighborhood was planted with old maples, their crowns transformed into my favorite reddish color.
It just started to get dark, the sky turned all purple and the wind was blowing slightly.
From the point of a witch these kind of days were perfect for magic, you could feel it in the air. Nothing interrupted the Flow, so even some of the more sensual humans could feel the humming energy.
My mood got light up instantly, my body was filling up with magical electricity. If I were to cast a spell now, I was sure it would go real smooth and would be more powerful than any other night.
I liked this about magic, that it was always changing, showing differengt sides. Though it was a drawback as well, especially for the kind of witches with unpredictable magical abilities. Unfortunately, I belonged to this group.
When I was doing magic I could never be one hundred percent sure what would be the result. It caused me quite the headache.
The wind was chilly and I was wearing a crop top with a knitted sweater, which wasn't the most efficient clothing for fall but at least I looked good in it. Most witches had interesting clothing styles. You know, they looked witchy. Well, I was usually wearing human stuff with a load of cristal bracelets. They were mostly fake witchcraft but some of them was loaded with spare magic for rough times and emergencies.
Now I used them to sustain my body temperature without having to wear too much clothes. I knew what my mom would think. That I used magic out of comfort and not necessity. She would tell me, I was making it cheap and worthless. Well, yeah, my family had traditions and tried to uphold it. But sadly for them I could not care less. It was just a little, harmless spell to make my life easier.
As I was nearing my neighbourhood the sun finally set down, and the street lamps lit up.
I could see our apartment ahead when suddenly I felt a strange sensation in the air close to me. It was like a cyclone in the Flow. It lasted only a second and I couldn't tell wether I was just imagining things or it really happened.
Anyways I stopped to look around but didn' t see a thing. I was the only one on the nearby streets bur I could see life behind the windows of the houses.
So I continued my way but with a more vary expression. Being a Magical in a district full of humans wasn't always the safest thing. There were some radicals preaching about their pure human blood's superiority, creating a modern witch-hunt. Had I mentioned, witches weren't the most popular even among the Sum.
I reached our house at the end of the road, when for a moment the street lamps blacked out. At the same time I felt the Flow stop. It didn't flow anymore. It was the first time I felt anything like this.
I could see a shadow jumping out from our garden. It looked like a big dog or some other kind of an animal, I couldn't tell. I yelled at the sudden movement in suprise.
It was really fast, got before me in a blink and shoved me to the ground sprinting off to somewhere. Hell, it hurt kissing the pavement with my knees. Getting up I was cursing that thing like shit.
Fortunately, on the five-metre path to the front door nothing happened and I opened the door with a tired sigh. Our place wasn't a big one, we couldn't really afford that having been a student vampire and a lazy ass wirch from Virginia. But it was well enough for us.
Syb had already left for university night classes but left some leftovers in the fridge for me. I was definitely into food. Especially into steaked meat. It was Heaven and I hoped it would help me process what just happened outside minutes ago.
Maybe I should do some checking around the house protection spells against bulgrers. I was thinking about expanding the rock circles when something caught my eyes on the edge of the kitchen table.
It was among the post, magazines and letters: a fully black envelope. I hadn't seen it there at the morning when I left. I got curious and picked it up. It wrote with shiny letters Psychic on it. I felt its energy vibrating on my fingertips. It must have been touched by a dozen of Magicals. I opened it up. It was an invitation. From particularly noone. For me.
And the day just became stranger....
Sooo, it's the end of Chapter 1, what do you think so far?
I really hope you enjoyed reading it! I plan an update this week so stay tuned!
