"So Tinker Bell, what do you want from us?" Syb crossed her arms over her chest and was staring down on the obnoxious little monster who was not one bit baffled by the intimidation.
A vampire's gaze is definitely not something a normal person could bare, but of course, we were talking about a fairy. A small one, but still.
"I want nothing from you bloodsuckers!" the pixie snapped back. They were glaring at each other.
"Then I advise you to apologise for biting my friend, butterfly back to your hive and let us eat our dinners in peace."
The pixie started ranting in a voice so high I couldn't even decipher, scattering glistening blue powder all over our table by moving its wings at a furious speed. Apparently Syb could understand everything, with every word her stare became more and more deadly. The little fairy had a pretty nasty mouth.
I sighed. This was going on for a while now so I decided to step in before the owners got fed up with all the noise coming from us and threw us out. I really liked this place.
"Hello" I waved at the angry creature successfully getting its attention. I know it was rude to think about him or her as it, pixies were quite oversensitive, but I hadn't dealt with enough of their kind to be able to determine their sex, they were too alike. "I'm Winhilda Brisbane, a wi..." I decided to go with an itroduction but the blue pixie just shoke its head.
"I know who you are, witch, I came here looking for you."
I exchanged a questioning gaze with Syb, she seemed as surprised as I was.
"For me?" I was confused. Maybe they wanted revenge because of the library?
"Yes. I just said so." the pixie got impatient. "My name is Xavier, personal advocate of Lady Mabe, CEO of Iron and Cross Industries, Highlady of the Fey"he said proudly.
Lady Mabe.
I only knew her from the tales I heard as a child. But that was more than enough. The Highlady of the Fey had a fearful reputation. She was said to be one of the most powerful and cruelest fay of all and on top of that the CEO of the most successful Magical only corporation in the States. The name Iron&Cross came from the wrong human belief that the Fey were weak to anything iron and that with a cross you could kill a vampire. It was all bullshit of course. But since a large group of shareholders were vampires in the company, and they had a horrible sense of humor, it made sense.
"I'm sorry, but I don't understand what Lady Mabe would want from my friend" projected Syb my thoughts.
"It's not any of your bussiness" sneered the pixie at her.
I got tired of their bickering so I stepped in "It's okay Syb, let's just hear the little man out."
"I'm not little, witch!" Xavier shouted at me.
"I apologise, I apologise" I said hurridly.
The blue pixie flew up to the level of my head than settled down on my shoulder.
"Look, witch, I've been looking for you the whole day and this city's smog makes my skin itch, so let me finish why I came hear, than hopefully we would never see each other again" he didn't even let me reply as he continoued. "Lady Mabe wants an audition with you. It's about a really important matter that must remain a secret from you for now. Place and time will be revealed in front of you in due time. I'm here to tell you about your required presence only."
Before I could say anything the pixie flew away with biting at my neck last time. Syb and I, well mostly I, sat there baffled. I had a lot of things to think about and now I also needed to do a throughout check on the Highlady of Fey before I got summoned by her.
But before everything else, I needed to finish eating, I could only deal with the world with a full stomach.
